I got the email late last night that the homeschooling article I floated around here a little while back was accepted by Backhome Magazine. They don't pay until publication, but they're sending the contract, so I guess it counts! Thanks to all who critiqued it for me; probably every one of you would recognize your fingerprints on the version I sent the editor. If anyone is interested, I'll add the querry letter and responses to the thread in the writing class forum. This brings me to the question: when can you start calling yourself a writer? Thanks for all the help, people; I couldn't have done it without you.

This is my favorite forum! Congratulations!!!! I think, you can call yourself a writer when you put your first submission in the mail.

Congratulations! And I agree with MaryRobinette; you can call yourself a writer when your first sub is sent out.

Thanks, everyone. The issue is now out (it's the September/October issue), and the check has been received and spent. The article "Afraid to Homeschool" isn't available to read online, but BackHome's website is www.backhomemagazine.com/index.html if anyone wants to take a look at the magazine.
Thanks again!
