Hi. Just wondering if someone could give me a quick answer from their own knowledge. Surely this answer is available on the internet (but i find that there are a lot of different opinions to be found there too.)
When submitting a manuscript, in MS word, what should the format be.
Double space seems obvious... but what about margins? 1 inch? all around or just on the sides?
I guess thats my big '?'... obviously I'm not going to submit a cursive script or something...

There are articles out there you should look at if you're not certain, but yeah -- double-spaced, 1" margins (all around), courier 12pt (although some people still prefer TNR, I say, why tempt fate?).

Also need to keep in mind that publishers have different preferences, so scour the manuscript submission page for clues. If none are given, go with the tried-and-true as noted above.
Perhaps interestingly, OSC has written about manuscript formatting in his latest Uncle Orson's Writing Class article.

It's an option in most modern word processors that inflates all the white spaces to make the last character in each line match up with the right margin. Don't use it.

Frankly, you're just as well off not knowing, it's only useful if you want to do desktop publishing. Even then....
