Well, I just went and tried it. I was the only person there and it opened two pop-under windows when I entered. One was instructions (I think, I didn't let it load) but the other was an advertisement. I don't think I'll try it again.
Besides, real-time chat is so much more time consuming than forums.

EDITED to add: I was a bit put off to see "Hot Singles Want to Meet You" at the bottom of the chat applet. I wonder if OSC knows what kinds of ads his chat software uses?
