I know we've had these topics before, but now I'm just about read to put one together myself and so I'm paying attention
Any hints, advice, links to examples, etc. for putting together a query package. I'd like to feel comfortable with how to write a cover letter, a summary, and a chapter-by-chapter outline.
...hope that's enough to get you going. If you want, I can foward a copy of the package I sent out to you. Didn't get me a contract...but I did get personalized rejection indicating they liked my narrative but it just didn't engage them enough. At least I know the formatting and package DID get them to look at and read what I had sent...

Thanks for the links, I'm getting lots of good information. Jules, the one you posted with the examples of what to and NOT to do was great. (I always learn best by example.) I'm still feeling nervous, so if anyone else has any great links they'd like to share I'm still researching this.

I visited all of those sites, but the best advice I've gotten--repeatedly--is to cut every extraneous thing in the letter. I talked to an editor and iff you are interested, I'd be happy to email you the before and after of my query letter. She edited it for me. It gets my manuscript through the door repeatedly, now I just need some someone to do the same for the manuscript.

All blue-eyed cats are deaf if and only if no blue-eyed cats are not deaf. Just because there are deaf but non-blue-eyed cats, that doesn't imply that there are any non-deaf blue-eyed cats.

If any deaf cats are interested in reading then they may read my two letters in Writing Class under "Sample Query".

Yesh, well, no it isn't. But it's just a nit-picky thing I have about improper material equivalence attributions. In the current context, the difference is probably unimportant, but that isn't the same thing as being no different.
