I am going to be interviewing editor John Ordover of Phobos Books for an SFFW newsletter article. Toward that end, I thought I'd give my fellow and sister writers the opportunity to suggest questions.
So, if you had a chance to ask an editor how to get ahead in this business, what would it be? I'd particularly like to hear from folks who would like an editor's advice to new writers. I can't promise I'll ask him every question, but I'll sure try to use most. Thanks!

What kind of hard and fast rules does Phobos follow in classifying novels as Fantasy/Sci-fi/other?
Rejection letters are often like Real Estate advertisements. For instance, "A cute bungalo on a quiet street," might be interpreted to mean "One bedroom, pink siding, facing an overgrown alley." What help can you give in interpreting rejection letters?
