Not to disappoint anyone, but I don't have any deep insights into the psyche of odouls for my landmark post. I also don't have any powerful or moving stories from my past.
What I will offer is a quick line about what my future holds.
As many of you know, I am now a married man of 3 weeks tomorrow, married to a wonderful, strong, intelligent, loving woman. On top of that, I have joined the United States Navy. I leave for basic training two weeks from today. Basic training is 9 weeks long and then I'm off to San Diego for Surface Sonar Technician school. After that, if all goes well and I am accepted into the training program I want, I will be in the San Diego area training for the better part of a year. I've been working hard, training, working, reading, and preparing for this for a long time. It's time to put up or shut up. Or rather, time to shut up and put up. This was a difficult decision to make, but I've thought on it, prayed about it, and discussed it with people I respect, and I really feel that this is the right thing for me, and for my family. So there it is. A little snippet. Uncle Dave is gonna be a sailor.

Awesome! Isn't that the same place where Mark Terrell trained? Jason Lewis and I visited him there one time during a weird algae thing that made the beaches glow. I think you'll like it there

Geoff, you switch names more than Prince. You avoiding a landmark on Rat...Dog now?
I actually don't know about Mark Terrell. Do you know what program he was in? What his job was? I might be able to tell you where his school was from that.

Er ... "The Navy". That's what he did. Far as I know
I use Puppy at work and A Rat Named Dog at home. I use pseudonyms to avoid swinging around my last name where it's irrelevant, and I added the "Puppy" name because of something adorable Papa Moose's son said.

I have a cousin who's in the navy. Congratulations on the career choice and good luck with your future.

My dad was stationed in San Diego when he was in the Navy. (USS Queenfish). My older sister was born there. (I, however, have never been to San Diego).
Good luck on your Navy career, and many years of happiness on your marriage!
Yes, my wife will be coming to San Diego with me. That's part of the reason we went ahead and got married, we wanted to be able to be together during my time in service.
