I know I haven't technically "earned" a landmark after only 800 some od posts (especially since they occured over a period of about five years) but I turned 21 today. It's been a really crappy birthday so far, as my vehicle was stolen in the wee hours this morning, but here it is for what it's worth.
When people discuss issues, whether they are personal, political, religious, whatever, we always seem to argue as if our two possible options were the extremes. Sometimes, that might even be the case. But living on the extremes is a constant pressure. The ropes are always pulled taut, emotions always run high, course corrections always have to be made at alarming frequency. There is a ground between those extremes where the winds are much kinder. It is my goal to find my way from the ideological maelstrom at the border to the calmer seas. It is in search of those seas, that place inside myself that doesn't always have to be right, and that can connect on a real level with people who disagree with me on even important, visceral issues, that I have created the item linked at the bottom of this post. I've come a very long way already, but have miles to go before I sleep. If you want to come with me on this journey, or even just point and laugh from the sidelines, here it is.

That was different....and I think you have "earned" a Landmark as much as anyone has.
I have over 4,000 posts, and I have yet to do a Landmark. Not because I don't appreciate them; I really do. Not because I don't have anything to say; anyone who has met me IRL will laugh if you even suggest that to them.
I haven't done a Landmark yet because I haven't felt the need to do one, although I might for 5,000. Or I might at 5,678....if I feel like it, then I will.
The number isn't important, not compared to other considerations. I think 1,000 is a good place to start, as it means that the person writing it has been here a while, and have a good grasp of the place and what a Landmark can be.....but you have been here for long time, and even though you don;t post as often as some of us, I would imagine you grasp of the place is more than adequate.
Thanks for posing that, and I hope to see you around a little more often now...

Happy Birthday! Hope the rest of the year is better than the way this one started off. Maybe it will be like the old "In like a lion, out like a lamb" thing.
