Even though most of my posts are fluff, I have finally reached 1000! And it's only been about two months! (is that a record?)
I've noticed that a lot of you joined because you had friends here. Well, I didn't. I had just started getting into role-playing, and decided I wanted to join an online game. I vaguely remembered something about Hatrack 1830's here, so I decided to check it out. When I found VBS, I was thrilled! Ever since I had read Ender's Game, I had thought it would be cool if there was an RPG!
Anyway, soon after I joined VBS, I decided to join this forum. It all went downhill from there. Staying on the computer for hours at a time, staying up 'till midnight posting, etc, etc. I know you'll all admit, I was a hopeless newbie, and still am. I was totally clueless about everything. Good grief, I lost my innocence to you people! There were words I had to look up in the dictionary, and wish I never did!
However, I am glad I joined Hatrack, and now I'm totally addicted. Thank you to everyone for destroying hopes of getting anything usefull done.
And now, for the mushy part.
((((((Raia and Marek))))) Thank you so much! When I first joined, you guys really made me feel welcome. Most people stuck up their noses at newbies, but you didn't. You guys made me feel like I fit right in, and I'll never forget that. (((((Raia and Marek)))))
(((((Rhaegar))))) For being cool, and making this place more fun than it already was.
(((((Hobbes))))) For liking tigers, of course!
(((((Annie))))) For keeping Photoshop Phriday going. I don't have time to submit entries, but I love to see what other people are doing!
(((((Rivka))))) For being a smiley lover!
(((((Shigosei))))) For all those awesome Uruk-Haikus! I actually e-mailed a bunch of them to friends.
I'll think of more people to thank later. Right now my brain is kind of frozen...

Awww, Eru, CONGRATS!!! YAY!!!!! (((((Eru))))) So good to have you here!! You were definitely one of my favorite newbies, now I dunno if you can be called a newbie anymore, being 1000 posts old...
Congrats, dear!! Posted by pooka (Member # 5003) on November 22, 2003 05:06 PM:
Boy, I see you young kids and think "how would my life be different if I had started posting on Hatrack at age 16?"
And it's not a totally idle question, did't Hatrack already exist on AOL in '86?
(((EN)))
Posted by Eruve Nandiriel (Member # 5677) on November 22, 2003 05:13 PM:
I know. I saw a lot of people that had been here a long time, and knew each other so well. It made me wish I had joined sooner. But Raia and Marek fixed that! (((((Raia and Marek))))
And it did exist in AOL, but I'm not sure how far back.
Posted by Zevlag (Member # 1405) on November 22, 2003 05:13 PM:
Heh, Congrats.
I don't know if it was on AOL that early...
Posted by Marek (Member # 5404) on November 22, 2003 06:06 PM:
I'm glad I could help you feel more welcome, I thought I was still a hopeless newbie, but thanks. You have helped make this place more fun too, and made me feel less out of place here, so thank you. I've only been here four months and have way fewer posts than you do, but if I was helpful in makeing you feel like you fit in here and should stay then good, because you do and you should.
Congrats on the 1,000 posts, and on being the only person to figure out my screen name on their own. *applauds* (they need an applauding smilie the closest to me is the hat tipping dude) Posted by Eruve Nandiriel (Member # 5677) on November 22, 2003 06:07 PM:

Just messin' with you. Congrats on 1000 I suppose, although I don't think that having 1000 posts in two months makes you any less "new". Time would be the factor in newness.
I plan on never reaching 1000 posts. My next screen name is ready and waiting if that day ever comes along. If people think you are new, they will let you get away with more crap.

You suck, and we all really wish you would just leave this forum. I was talking to raia a couple nights ago and she told me about how she was writing a song to sing in chorus about how much she hates you. Yeah that's right, and you thought she was your friend, shows what you know.

I thought the exact same thing as glynn did. Landmarks should be based on time as well as posts. Just because you can post 700 times a day doesn't mean you deserve a landmark.
--ApostleRadio
Posted by celia60 (Member # 2039) on November 24, 2003 04:43 PM:
um, i think that depends on what the landmark means to you.
a landmark post that exists because you feel comfortable enough to share enough of yourself to make one can be at any time. even at 200. even at 1.
of course, i'm required to say that since at over 2600, i'm still not comfortable making one and only have made the superficial 1000 and 2000 because of that accursed baron. if you kids want to yell at someone for misuse of the landmark system/tradition, yell at me. i'm far greater a violator of the intent that this poster.
Posted by prolixshore (Member # 4496) on November 24, 2003 04:44 PM:
no celia, you misunderstand
i think a landmark should come around when there are enough people who would care to read it. and when someone might recognize your name.
when i hit 1000, i wont be making a landmark for exactly those reasons.
Posted by Eruve Nandiriel (Member # 5677) on November 24, 2003 04:45 PM:
1000 seemed to be a goal for a lot of people. So I made a landmark. Be glad I waited 'till 1000. Even if it is fluff.

saying that i dont have to read a thread means absolutely nothing and you know that.

Posted by Black Mage (Member # 5800) on November 24, 2003 05:41 PM:

Posted by Eruve Nandiriel (Member # 5677) on November 24, 2003 05:42 PM:
And it will still take you a few months to get to 1000.
Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on November 24, 2003 05:46 PM:
PC and AR -- just because you don't know or don't care, doesn't mean the same is true of others.
Is someone's landmark thread REALLY the place to be unnecessarily insulting?
Posted by Black Mage (Member # 5800) on November 24, 2003 06:00 PM:
Hey, I got two hundred posts in over the weekend.
Posted by Raia (Member # 4700) on November 24, 2003 06:08 PM:
A landmark can be posted by anyone whenever they feel they have reached a milestone... if Eru feels 1000 is her milestone (heck, I posted a landmark at 500 the first time, I'm so comfortable here) then that's when she should do it! There's no specific rule for landmarking, it's whenever the poster feels that they have reached a certain point in there experience here, and that they want to share that moment with anyone else who appreciates it. Those who don't, needn't.
Posted by Icarus (Member # 3162) on November 24, 2003 07:06 PM:
I'm with Celia here. People should post it when/if they feel like it. If they haven't been here very long and not a lot of people know them, then they will simply not get a lot of responses, but posting might still have been a meaningful act for them and for the people who do know them. But a discussion of when it's appropriate to post a landmark might better go elsewhere, lest Eruve draw the mistaken impression that she is not welcomed or liked--and I'm sure nobody means for her to think that.
I for one, think she's a sweetheart, and I'm glad she's enjoying the forum. I hope she stays long enough for me to get to know her better.
Cheers!
