So it seems I've hit the 2,000 mark. What now? I really have no idea. After so much shameless self-promotion, I don't think I have anything left to say about myself. At least nothing particularly interesting, anyway.
First off, I never thought I'd hit 2,000 so quickly. I've become a rabid post whore to rival the likes of the infamous T_Smith. I've realized that I need to cut back. I need to work on my magazine. I need to work on my writing. I need to work on my artwork. I need to work on my schoolwork.
In other words, you might not be seeing me as much for the next month or so, though I'll have to wait and see how much willpower I actually have.
Anyway, I'm rambling. I just wanted to say what Hatrack means to me. It's a place to hang out and shoot the breeze with a bunch of cool people. It's a place to have stimulating conversations on a wide range of topics. It's a place full of really good jokes and really good jokesters. It's a place where newbies are still welcome, even though they all get teased.
I often look back at my newbie phase (which I'm not sure has ended) and wonder what the heck I was thinking. I could be pretty argumentative and defensive, and I tended to assume that everyone automatically knew my point of view. I mostly stuck to the OSC side of the forum, where I got in a big argument with Tom. I dreaded coming to Hatrack, because the argument was very frustrating. I thought Tom was a condescending socialist jerk. It eventually wound down to a stalemate (I think), and as time went on, I realized that Tom is actually a very cool guy. I started coming to this side more often, and I started to find my place. Then I got branded as a shameless self-promoter. I'm still trying to figure out exactly how that all happened (I mean, it's not like I planned it that way). Oh well. In my 1,000th post, I said that I wasn't quite sure if I fit in yet. But now, I definitely feel like I'm a part of this community. You guys are a great bunch of people, and even though I don't agree with all of you, I still love and respect you.
I still feel like a newbie sometimes, especially when things go over my head (like my recent discovery that Ralphie, Slash, and Deirdre are siblings -- who knew? [Well, obviously, everyone but me knew]). You live and learn, I guess. I'm sure it's only a matter of time until I become one of those old fogies like Tom or Bob, though I doubt I'll ever do anything to warrant such legendary status. Anyway, I'm glad to know you guys, and I'm glad that I even had the chance to meet a few of you in person. Which reminds me, we never had that Salt Lake picnic. I'll have to get on that right away.

Way to go Jon Boy. I find it a tad bit depressing when I find people who've joined after me but posted far more. But kudos for you!

That'd probably add a couple hundred more, though I'm too lazy to go through all my profiles and add them up. I currently have fourteen names, by the way. Ten points to anyone who can name them all.

Infamous, eh? Well, Jon sometime this week I'll go back and see how long it took me to get to 2000 and how long it took you and compare the two. I think you might have beat me in the difference between 1,000 and 2,000, though wether or not you beat Mae is beyond me.
Jon, in one way or another I consider you to be something of a friendly rival. Can't really explain why, though.
Anyway, I really do enjoy your presence.

I think I might've beaten you from 1,000 to 2,000. After 1,000, my post rate increased a lot. Hence the need to cut back a bit.
Friendly rival, eh? Join with me, and together we can rule Hatrack as father and . . . um . . . well, that doesn't work. We can rule Hatrack as . . . um . . .
Oh, you get the idea.

I would have to say, for having more nicks than Pat does. Geeze, I didn't think it was possible, but I think you got him.

EG, if you think I'm that cool, I won't argue. I'm so cool, I even withstood Kayla's crushing blow to my ego! Take that, Kayla!

Oh, good job, Kayla! You're driving people out of my thread with your antics! That's the last time I invite you to my landmark post.

I don't seem to recall you giving ANYONE any sort of invitation. My presence here is strictly voluntary and you should be thanking me for increasing your popularity just by posting on your thread.

Well, I got a nice, handwritten invitation. It was in code though. Either that or it was my grocery list. At any rate, I ate it, so there's no way of knowing now.

Didn't you get your invitation, T? It must've gotten lost in the mail. But just in case any other invitations got lost, I'd like to say that everybody is invited to my thread. I'll keep a list of everyone who doesn't sign my guestbook, and I'll assume you hate me.

I got my invitation and my check...Thank you very much!
Congratulations!
I think my own jump from 1,000 to 2,000 may have set some sort of record. I was pretty slow in getting to 1,000, and I have slowed down again since 2,000, but for a couple dangerous weeks, I was quite seriously addicted. I'm too lazy to do the research right now, though. Since I didn't do a landmark thread for 2k, I don't know how I'd even figure out when my 2000th was.

I think it's debatable whether or not I killed this one. However, it should be noted that this is 6 months after you joined. It's not like I targeted you from the start. It was nearly 6 months before I even cared enought to try to kill a thread you started!
I also (while not bumping it) will mention that I think your fame at Hatrack soared after I dumped you publicly on April 2.

Well, that, and attaching himself to Patrick. Becoming mini-Pat was the first time I noticed.

This is disturbing, and I'm not sure what it says about me, but it occurred to me today that I actually know/recognize all of Jon Boy's (and Pat's) aliases and don't get confused. Is this normal? On the other hand, I was always the last to know who was and wasn't a Ced clone, so maybe it balances out.
I also recently used the phrase 'shameless self-promotion' in conversation, and it appears to have really caught on. Thanks, JB.
