I registered back in April of this year, and here I am writing my 1,000th post. Actually, I registered exactly one year after Daniel proposed. Not on purpose, I don't think, but interesting nonetheless.
I definatly came here because of Daniel. He's been here since March of '01. Me, I'd never even heard of OSC until Dan read Ender's Game to me in an attempt to convince me to like Sci-Fi (he's still working on that). He also read The Lord of the Rings to me in our first year together. I'd never read it, never thought it would be something I'd like. But he convinced me, and I completely fell in love. I've gotten deep into Tolkien's other writings, and am currently working on the song cycle that he and David Swann wrote. So when Dan mentioned that the OSC forum he was visiting all the time had this big deal with LotR, and some of the women had started up a tavern and such, well...I got curious. I wanted to see it.
I lurked for a while, laughed at the Tavern, was fascinated by the varying religious views, avoided the political discussions, and learned a whole lot about Mormons. I started to figure out personalities. I became enthralled with the whole system, and was amazed to see such intelligent conversations taking place on the internet.
But, when it came down to it, the Wenches drew me in. I registered and went to the Tavern to introduce myself. I've been here ever since. And boy, have I enjoyed it.
I have learned so much from this place, from all of you. Not only information, but about how to express myself more clearly. About how important it is to defend my own thoughts well, but also be able to admit when I've made a mistake. About how different people can be from one another. And how different a person can be from one day to the next.
I love it here. I've been so angry over some of these threads, and I've laughed so hard over others. But all of that - it just makes this place that much more alive. I look forward to coming here every day, and I miss it when I'm not around. And in January, I get to meet a bunch of you! I'm very excited about that.
Here's to many more good days along the Hatrack River.

Congrats! That's pretty interesting about the wenches thread. I didn't think we were that interesting. Glad you're here!

Wow. I had no idea it was the wenches that drew you in. Go us!
Vana, you and Lime are fantastic additions to this site. I'm so glad you're here. And, may I say you are among the nicest people I've ever known. I still remember the email you sent me when I was having a tough time that made me cry. In a good way.
You guys are wonderful. Thanks for helping me feel so comfortable here.
Yes, Pixie, the Wenches are that interesting. And...and...you guys are all just so great! Thanks for making me feel good when I read these responses. I especially appreciate it because tonight will be my first night without Lime since the wedding, so I'm feeling a little sorry for myself.
Oh, and thanks for bumping this! My silly husband doesn't even seem to have noticed it yet.
