I have been here two years today!!! (well not just today, but I've been here two years over the last two years).

To celebrate, I've decided to sit naked in front of my computer and get a few things off my chest.

First of all, GET OFF MY LAWN!!! How many times do I have to tell you people.

Next, I'd just like to compliment everyone. I'm not going to name names because I view Hatrack as a gestalt phenomenon (take that, you meme-jockeys) that it is best not to separate into its constituent parts. That and I have such a bad memory that I would certainly offend 1/2 the people I would like to compliment. So, consider yourselves in my thoughts, if I could only retrieve them.

Thirdly, this place is very important to me. I would like to acknowledge the efforts of Kathryn, our beloved janitor and of course Mr. & Mrs. Card for their continued efforts and for spending the money to keep this place afloat. Without it, I'd be off on some political discussion site trying to 'zing' people. What emptiness...

Quarterly, I would like to take a moment of silence for those who are not with us today, but who have made such an impact on this place. Again, I won't mention names because their absence means that I've mostly forgotten them, but still we feel their presence as if it was only yesterday when they did what they did or said what they said. To our absent friends!!!

Cinquentially, I'd like to borrow some money. Just enough to pay for my move to Hawaii and ensure that I never have to work for a living again. This would give me the freedom to post a lot more and also maybe, if I feel like it, write the many novels that are rattling around in my head. So, you should really consider this an investment in your future entertainment and not so much as a loan. This should be an especially comforting viewpoint in later years as you reflect upon the fact that I've never paid you back.

Sixily, I would like to acknowledge the deep debt I already have to all of you for the past two years of personal growth. This place is like therapy for me, and I figure it has saved me well over $2,400 in psychiatric care, plus a similar amount in medications. Not that I don't still need help, mind you. Just that since I'm chained to the computer awaiting each new Hatrackian utterance, I'm less of a danger to myself and others.

Septilisimo, and Finalish, it makes me all tingly inside when I think of how Hatrack has become a living being and a family. Sort of a big amoeba-like family with pseudopods (and a real POD) oozing forward and reabsorbing; vacuoles popping out through the membrane, only to be sucked back in later; the nucleus dividing and giving rise to new versions of ourselves; overwhelming the web with the spreading growth of pages and pages of posts, and thousands of threads. It is just a beautiful thing to be a part of.

If only I looked as good as Leto. My life would be complete.

Two years amd >6660 posts? Did you say you had a job??

Classy post. Yet another one to try and emulate when I hit post #1000, sometime in late 2007.

EDIT: Don't ever sign up for wireless internet in a hotel, even to keep up with Hatrack. It stinks, and you can't see the letters well enough to catch typos.

Wow, Bob you rock.

My 2 year is in February, I think.

I shall endeavor to write a post worthy of this one. You are my idol. Just think, you believe that *I* have talent in writing my little humorous pieces.

I think you are one of the most entertaining people I know. I love your posts. Even when we've had disagreements ( and I can only think of one or two, and those were religion threads - and one reason why I'm sworn of those for the future), we've been able to treat each other with respect and come out of it still friends.

*sniff* I love you man! There are a few core people at Hatrack that made it impossible for me to stay away. I won't name them, because I'll forget some, but you're on the list, bud. One Bob Scopatz as my friend is worth 200 people spewing hatred at me. (not that there were 200 people, or anything like that - well, I'm sure you all know what I mean.)

*Raises 12 oz can of Pepsi One in Bob's Honor*

To Bob!

Counting Belle's Pepsi One, over 8,000 calories have been consumed during the writing and reading of this thread.

Heavy stuff indeed.

Thank you all for celebrating my 2nd anniversary with me. I've put out a selection of Maui Wow Wee candy bars for your enjoyment. They are better than Godiva!!!

Bob, congratulations on being the most consistently funny person I've met online. Well, make that the second most consistently funny. The most consistently funny person I've ever met online was named Larry, who was a CPA, which you wouldn't think would lend itself to being a funny-person kind of profession, going to show me that all professions have their levity, even in beancounterland. I tried to get him to come to Hatrack, but he thought we were all way too smart for him. Actually, he said geeky. In truth, I think he was threatened at possibly losing his King of Consistently Funny title to you, Bob.

Jeniwren : That Larry didn't by chance wear a Leisure Suit, did he?

Posted by jeniwren (Member # 2002) on :

Perish the thought, gator. He would only wear a Leisure Suit if they sold them at Nordstrom.

Hey, Bob. Remember the word of the day thread?

Because of your incredibly, icnreasingly hilarious usages and then your dang blasted persistence in updating it after the unfortunate demise of Dobie (in Hatrack terms, people, I'm not saying that he's actually dead) I kept getting sucked back into that vortex and then checking other threads while I was around and so grew to love you all and thus became so addicted to the hatcrack that here I am. Today. Right now. Posting on this thread.

It's all your fault, and God bless you for it, man.

I'm sorry I couldn't keep that one going, but it ended on a nice note. :-)

Never!!! My "job" would be to post at Hatrack, with sporadic use of the keyboard to type in the great American novel.

(I really wish they'd just sell the darn thing in electronic form, so I wouldn't have to type it all in).

gator - I used to work for a catalogue-order software company that sold the game "Leisure Suit Larry." We used to joke around that it came packaged with a rubber glove.

Since then, I've pretty much blocked the game from my mind.

Bobalicious.

You are the grease that oils the wheel of Hatrack. Heck, you are the hubcap.

In all the time I've known you here, Bob, I've never seen you be less than a gentleman. Always a kind word, a thoughtful insight, a terribly stinky pun, whatever -- but never to make less of others, never to detract from this place.

You've never done any unmaking. Wow, more than 7000 posts, and what a record.

For me, you are quintessential Hatrack:

"the fifth and highest element in ancient and medieval philosophy that permeates all nature and is the substance composing the celestial bodies; the essence of a thing in its purest and most concentrated form; the most typical example or representative."

Yep, pretty much what you are, all but that last bit. Were you only more typical of Hatrack, Bob. (The only way I'd love ya more is if you were twins! )

*heartfelt toast

Posted by Bob_Scopatz (Member # 1227) on :

The trouble with heartfelt toast is that it gets all soggy with blood and no matter how much jam you put on it, it never tastes the same. And half the time, the pumping just turns the thing to crumbs anyway.

Thanks CT...coming from someone who saves lives as a vocation, I take that as high praise indeed.

Posted by Fael (Member # 3015) on :

Bob you never did say if you were still sitting naked in front of the computer.

Now what kind of an image is that?

Posted by Bob_Scopatz (Member # 1227) on :

I had a change of heart (without anesthetic) over the whole "sitting in front of the computer naked" thing. Let's just say that until the cat gets declawed, I won't be doing that again!!!

Posted by Icarus (Member # 3162) on :

LOL

(You have a cat? Then I'm afraid we can never get together at you place, at least not with Cor present. BTW, I have not yet seen The King and I, I plan to go on Friday. Contact me if you want to go too, and maybe go out afterward.)

Definitely up for King & I... sorry I missed your post -- see my e-mails and phone messages...

Anyway, I'm afraid the beer fest is out for us (Atkin's diet).

Posted by zgator (Member # 3833) on :

Icarus, we just went to the Food and Wine fest last weekend. The beer fest is the weekend of Nov. 9 and 10. That weekend will be one of those times where my wife may or may not be pregnant, so she won't be going. I may be meeting some friends there on the 10th.

Bob, you know Michelob makes a low carb beer now. It tastes like crap, but it's there.

Heh.

Posted by Bob_Scopatz (Member # 1227) on :

Yikes!!! Zgator, I think I might like an explanation of that thing about pregnancy too.

As for Michelob Ultra (the low carb beer), given that it IS low carb, it's actually pretty good.

Sadly, the beer fest is unlikely to hold much promise of variety in the "low carb" department.

Posted by zgator (Member # 3833) on :

I can see now where that statement might be a bit confusing. We are currently taking the artificial route to pregnancy and so we know exactly what day the blessed event would have occurred. That day just happens to be today. So given the 2 week window where you're waiting to know, she won't be drinking any alcohol for the time being.

I will be quite thrilled if it turns out that my child was conceived on Halloween. Not that I worship Samhain or anything. I just like Halloween.

We are still freaks however.

Posted by Icarus (Member # 3162) on :

(Bob, are you doing Atkin's Diet? If so, I apologize for sending you back to ground zero!)

Posted by Bob_Scopatz (Member # 1227) on :

Icarus... I'm doing the Atkins diet as of this week. Aura started it a little bit before me, but not to worry. We can have carbo-binges every once in awhile and just suck it up later, you know.

:P

I refuse to let healthy dietary choices get in the way of a good time!!!

(Except that beer isn't worth it to me.)

Anyway, I'm sort of undecided on this Atkins thing. It works great but it gets really boring really fast.

Posted by Icarus (Member # 3162) on :

Well, the thing with Atkins is you can't be bad and make up for it later. You have to stay in ketosis. If you binge, you wasted the two weeks or so it takes to get there. Other forms of dieting are more flexible in this regard.

My aunt makes this mistake on a regular basis. She claims to be on Atkins, and so lathers tons of butter on her BREAD. (I'm not exagerating. Think 4 patties on a roll.) We all look at her like she's nut and she says "I can have all the butter I want on this diet!" We ask, "but what about the bread?" And she says, "well, I'm doing a lot of walking today, so it's ok"! There's no making her understand that she can't balance some extra carbs with some extra exercise on this diet.

BTW, why on earth is Aura dieting? She's not overweight!

Posted by Bob_Scopatz (Member # 1227) on :

LOL @ your aunt...

Sorry.

Anyway, Aura is dieting because she wants to drop a size or two to fit into her better clothes. She looks great to me, but what the heck, she's enjoying her treadmill (go figure) and actually likes how she feels on the Atkins diet.

I on the other hand, can feel the lipids coagulting like SuperGlue in my arteries!!!
