I'm surprised this isn't bigger news. Viable eggs and sperm from stem cells would allow a lot of people who currently can't have children to reproduce. You'd think gay couples would be overjoyed.
I'm thinking that we should create a superbaby with Abe Lincoln as the father and Marilyn Monroe as the mother. Or maybe we can cross Tesla and Einstein? Or make a clone army of Schwarzenegger / Teddy Roosevelts?

My wife and I wanted to have kids of our own, but she had to have her uterus removed. She still has ovaries, but she is very allergic to any hormone treatment, so trying to harvest an egg to implant in a surrogate mother isn't really an option, either.
This new technology sounds viable, though it would probably be too late before it is ready for humans, if it ever works on humans.

Doubtful. Also, why would that help?
Oh, I thought it was the hooves that did it. It's the lack of cud-chewing. Learn something every day!

It is, but that's because it is reminiscent of "let's start by assuming a spherical cow" jokes.

what if a pig was evolved by stem cells to become sapient, acquired language, and of its own volition declared that it wished to convert to judaism

As long as it wasn't a cannibal?
There were some pigs who ate a farmer the other day, so I'd say they're already out for revenge.

Sperm carry either an Y or an X, so (as far as little old I know) all you need is two female sperm and you have a female zygote (using this new technology, obviously).
Also, female eggs don't have two X chromosomes, they have but the one.
