I like Pern, after I read the book about the first human settlers and how the world became what it was in the Harper Hall Trilogy I really fell in love.

I tend to love universe's that are created, rather than specific worlds in those universe's.
For fantasy this might tend to be one and the same, but not necessarily so for sci-fi.
