A muslim woman from Morocco was wed in an arranged marriage then moved here to the US with her new husband. He became very abusive and sexually assaulted her numerous times. She asked him to stop and this only made him more angry, and he beat her even more. Eventually he got tired of her and said he wanted a divorce. She got pregnant and under Islamic law he must wait until the baby is born before he can finalize the divorce.
She goes to court and files a restraining order against her ex husband, stating that he sexually assaulted numerous times. The judge DENIES the restraining order.
quote:
"This court does not feel that, under the circumstances, that this defendant had a criminal desire to or intent to sexually assault or to sexually contact the plaintiff when he did. The court believes that he was operating under his belief that it is, as the husband, his desire to have sex when and whether he wanted to, was something that was consistent with his practices and it was something that was not prohibited."

You do realize that this made the news because of the appeal that OVERTURNED that idiot judge, right?

As an aside, I've mentioned this before, but atlasshrugs2000 is about the looniest site in the history of sites I see cited here. Which is really saying something. You would do well to avoid them. It is mostly a haven for extreme islamophobic nuttery, birther 'controversy,' assertions that Obama is absolutely a Muslim and obama gave eminent domain rights to american land to china or whatever the nutball in charge comes up with that day.

Even if the ruling was overturned, the fact that it happened in the first place is pretty scary.

Yes and no. The fact is, individual judges have a lot of discretion. And the occasional one is nuts. THAT IS WHY WE HAVE AN APPEAL PROCESS.

Exactly. One person's sense, is another person's insanity, is another person's flawed reasoning, is another person's gospel, is another person's flavor of the week.

I realized this after I posted the link. I saw it on Foxnews and looked for another report on it but this one on AtlasShrugged was the only other one I could find.
I realize that the decision may have been overturned, but the fact that this happened in the first place scares me. I understand religious reasons for not serving in the military, but beating your wife and raping her is in a whole different category.
