John Updike, one of the great American writers, passed away today at 76 years old. He had been battling lung cancer for a while, and it had progressed very quickly. He actually lived in my town, and used to come into my mom's bookshop and sign copies of his books. He was a genuinely nice and caring man. He will be extremely missed.
There isn't a full article up that I could find, but as soon as I find one, I'll post it.

I just finnished reading The Widow's of Eastwick. The 3 ladies go back to Eastwick for a summer. Why did I not find this guy until it was too late? There is talk of making The Witches of Eastwick into a series. Many people are screaming "Charmed redux!" They must not have read UPDIKE. If they keep to his story and his darker- sexier - rough around the edge feel, it will be nothing like charmed IMHO
