I don't post much lately. I've been in lurker status for over a year probably but I felt like sharing... I proposed this past week to my girlfriend of 2+ years. She said yes. That's really about all I had to share but its happy news. Both familys are excited and my kids are happy too. They like my new fiance' quite a bit and that is important.

I still enjoy popping in just about every day and seeing what everyone is talking about. I just find I rarely have time to really get invovled in many conversatoins/discusions/arguments. Hatrack is a great community and I still hold many of its members in high regard. Plus, I'm happy about being happy again and it's always fun to share good news.
Everyone we know in here in our real world is happy for us and seems to think I actually picked a nice engament ring. More importantly, my fiance loves it so that is always nice. She's a big fan of the art deco style and I bought her a filigre (sp?) setting. It's very unique. We both are not really big fans of what's popular in the jewlery stores right now. Plus I bought from a local jewler, which is nice. We also went with a moissanite stone instead of a real diamond. It was actually her idea and I feel good about staying away from the blood diamonds. Not to mention that the same size stone can be purchased for a fraction of a diamond's cost. All and all its been a great week.
Thanks Hatrack for all the happy thoughts my way!

I'm glad for you. I remember how distraught you were during and after your divorce. It's good that you've found happiness again.

And interesting decision on the moissanite. I was just talking to a friend of mine the other day who is talking with her boyfriend about engagement rings and they decided on a moissanite, though not for moral reasons. They just figured buying a super expensive diamond, especially when there are aesthetically identical or even more pleasing cheaper alternatives out there, just for the sake of saying they have a diamond, was silly.
I hope that catches on more, both for economic and moral reasons.

I wish I could say that we didn't, but we kind of let everyone belive its a diamond. We haven't actually lied about it but we haven't corrected anyones assumptions. as mentioned, the two stones are nearly identical.
