A while back, Mitt Romney apparently claimed that his father had marched with Martin Luther King.
quote: But you can see what I believed and what my family believed by looking at, at our lives. My dad marched with Martin Luther King.
Well as it turns out that his father never actually marched with Dr King, and when questioned about it his campaign responded that the statement was supposed to be figurative. Now I know that distorted truths are nothing new on the campaign trail, but from what I can see he threw out a complete lie simply because he thought it sounded good, and then tried to cover it up with a very feeble excuse. Really, the comparison that comes to mind is of an elementary school bully trying to convince the teacher that he was "only kidding". I just can't see anything in the origina speech which would suggest that the statement was meant to be taken as something other than at face value.
