Now, I'm not against combining traditional cell-painted animation with CGI animation. The Vision of Escaflowne anime TV series had CGI dragons, but designed them carefully so that they wouldn't clash with the rest of the series. They looked like they belonged to the same visual 'universe'.
This clashes so badly it's hilarious. It's interesting to note that the 'traditional' animated characters look like they'd fit like a glove in an old D&D cartoon episode.
Starring- The exact same people who do voices in every other direct-to-DVD animated production.

And damnit the voice actor for Bakura Ryou isn't doing Raistlin!

Let's say that Blayne is 18 (I'm not sure of his age, so I'm guessing), it's conceivable that he now has twice the mass that he did 10 years ago.

Wow, I used to love Dragonlance when I was 10, but I couldn't help but laugh out loud when I watched the trailer. The animation made me think of the old Spiderman cartoon, but worse. And the voice over... dear god.

...only half of you existed a decade ago?
Come now. Blayne being 20, his character and mind have certainly been formed a lot more in the past ten years than in the ten before that.

I've not interacted with Blayne much. I had no idea what his age was until he stated it just now. Mostly, it was a silly quip about only half a person existing.

I highly doubt that, actually. Highly. This isn't an insult, but something that I believe; the reason for this is that you learned how to speak, to read, to understand mathematics, logic, millions of words, where they belonged, etc. all from nothing in those 10 years. So many abstractions... Pointing and making sounds and you learned all that, not to mention tons of science and other things which you picked up, possibly billions of little tidbits about culture and history that you had heard. Just my opinion though.

Wait, this a NEW movie coming out? This looks like a nostalgia bit, a TV commercial for a straight-to-VHS release I'd see during Sunday morning cartoons twenty years ago.

Wasn't this originally supposed to be a theatrical release?
Man, I hope there was some frame-rate degredation in the process of uploading to Youtube. Frankly, that was just... Sub-par, in so many ways.

Doesn't it though? It looks like one of those "special animated mini-series" Fox used to show before Peter Pan and the Pirates.

A theatrical release was considered...but from the look of things, it's best that they decided against it.

Oh. hahaha. I really thought this was from 1990, and I was thinking, wow, this looks pretty cool for something that old. Knowing that it is not, in fact, 17 years old, makes it lose a bit of luster, though...

Mmm, it's as if the last 15 years of advances in animation have disappeared - puff - in a cloud of smoke. Haven't they seen Final Fantasy or Disney movies from the last 10 years? Does the name Pixar mean anything to you? Anime? Bah.
I could possibly summon up enough energy to argue that the CGI dragons accentuate their alien nature, but really just think they highlight the average nature of the rest of the animation.
I hope that this isn't a true reflection of the final film.
The books are still fun though, and get a reread once in a while, when I need a fix of D&D nostalgia.

I might want to pick up a copy of that book on Raistlin taking the test, I can't remember the name of it. That was always one of my favorites. The origin story of Raistlin Majere...

Soulforge. It holds up pretty well on rereading, unlike the Chronicles. Lord Soth is probably my favorite in the series, though.
