That's what's unique about the opportunity. Seriously, though, it's a perfectly good secular holiday, with some good music that used to have religous meaning.

I've never heard it sung at anything but Christmas. The lyrics are rather different too (I wasn't actually aware until now that there were English lyrics to it), going roughly thus:
Sweet is Earth, mighty is God's heaven, delightful the pilgrim march of souls; through the beautiful kingdoms of Earth we go to Paradise with song.
Ages shall come, ages shall pass, kin shall follow the path of kin; never is silent, the note from heaven, that lights the soul's pilgrimage.
Angels sang it, first for certain shepherds, sweetly from soul to soul it ran: Human, rejoice, night is ended, us is a mighty saviour born.

That was one of the more interesting experiences I've ever had on Hatrack. If someone had told me a week ago that I'd be listening to King of Men sing a Christmas Carol that mentioned God, I would've laughed.
Seriously though, it was very enjoyable.

I should add that my paradigm shift isn't simply because KoM is singing a religious song (some very beautiful music has religious lyrics and Christmas is a perfect example of the good aspects of religion) but because I never really thought of him as the singing type.
Silly, really, they way I compartmentalise people. Nice to hear you sing, KoM .

I'm guessing Norwegian, since I believe that's his native tongue.
Your voice surprised me. I didn't know it until I heard it, but apparently I "pictured" you as a tenor. Thanks for sharing the song with us.
