After these past few weeks of ridiculous stress, I told my boss I was taking off for a few days after Christmas, and I think the mildly insane glint in my eye coupled with my record of (imho) stellar work this season convinced him to let me do it, despite the short notice. Or at least, he immediately responded with "Yeah, sure, no problem!"
In short, I'm going to be in SoCal (Van Nuys, specifically) from the 26th through the 28th and although it's primarily to visit family, my parents will likely be spending a lot of time fussing over my brother (who is marching in the Rose Bowl). So I figure...maybe time to meet some SoCal jatraqueros?
If you're in the area and would be interested in getting a cup of coffee or whatever it is you crazy LA types do, post?

The 28th is my husband's birthday. I will see if he wants to celebrate it with a Jatraquero (if you'll be around then...)

I'm interested, though I'd have to bring a kid or three with me, and perhaps a spouse depending on the time. Dinner always sounds good to me, of course, but gotta check with Mama before anything would be a "go." If we can see you and the ketchups it'd be cool, too.

eros, e-mailed you. Talk to the Meeses and get back to me. We'll work out what works for you and them.

Tentatively, it looks like dinner on the 26th somewhere in the Burbank area in the evening. Any other jatraqueros interested?

Yeah, 26th works for us too-- I sent out an e-mail with some restaurant ideas. Let me know what sounds good.

Did both of you get the e-mail I sent with the information last night? Just want to make sure.

Darn! I wish I could make it...I'm a county away, but am up to my eyeballs in busy. The 27th is my GFs birthday, and I've just got done managing three christmas's (both my parents and hers) with one more to come after the new year.
Well, have fun anyway!

Those in the north are No Cal. And we in the south are So Cal. Makes them northern folk feel bad, so they try to compensate.

That's too bad. We (in SoCal) love NorCal (is that an abbreviation? Never seen it before. )
Speak for yourself.
It's nice to visit, but I'd never want to live there!
Well, actually, I feel the same way. But my "we" meant "my family." My "(in SoCal)" meant, "who, as a family, live in SoCal."

Two plane rides later, I'm in Van Nuys, and sneezing a bunch (plane rides always make my sinuses and allergies go nuts due to the dehydration, especially when I sleep).
I think through sheer luck, I may have access to a car, so I don't have to take two $35 cab rides, yay!
See y'all there in about 2.5 hours.

Sorry about no follow-up e-mail rivka; I just sent you one. The freakin' power went out, and it was still out when I left this evening and I just got home.
It was a good 'ol time meeting KQueen, KPC, The Princess, Her Royal Heinzness, Papa Moose, Mama Squirrel, Squoose, Superstation and...and...I'm sorry guys, I tried to remember all of them, but I'm really bad with names. If it's any consolation, I think I remember everyone's real names!
Kqueen and Papa especially are more or less exactly what I expected them to be.

I hate when that happens. (Huh. Is the power outage because of the winds?)

So the news stories say. How ironic that I flew from Seattle, with its recent horrendous winds & power problems, to Burbank, only to be confronted by the same problems.
