What has it been, almost two years? (Is that right?) Shameful, really.
Now, I know that everyone is busy, and some of you have moved far(ther) away, and the last couple times we tried to do this it fizzled out.
But my place is available any of the following Sundays: Dec. 10 or 17 (the 24 and 31 would both be fine with me, but I imagine not for anyone else), Jan. 7, 21, 28. If another location is preferred, I am willing to drive anywhere reasonable.
(For those new to the SoCal clump, a Shinda (pl. Shindae) is a SoCallian Hatrack get-together.)

*salutes* We can do probably any of those, after about 2:30 in the afternoon (that time is assuming Rivka's place.) We will do (besides Rivka's place) anyone's house or a public space that does not require anyone to be working for pay for us to be there. We have Sabbath conflicts with making people work on a Sunday. We'll bring the Martinelli's for a toast.

Are you an abomination now, rivka? I didn't know you had a second job. How much does that pay?

I would like to add that I'm not opposed to cake, by any means. Cake is good. Just not necessary. Okay, not ALWAYS necessary. Okay, not necessary every day.

Me too. But I can settle for the pumpkin pie in the fridge.
After stuffing, maybe. Mmmm. Turkey leftovers. (Not from Thanksgiving, I cooked my own turkey last night.)

Eh, maybe if I get a job with National Park Service I can work in Yosemite or something and make a trip to see you guys in my free time.

I'm talking four years from now, though. I have to get my degree before I'm going any further than Kentucky or Indiana.

I want a Shinda when I'm in SoCal for my brother's wedding in July. I demand cake and everything.

Primal, while it's hard for me to plan that far in advance, that sounds quite reasonable to me.
quid, so BAKE one!
Slacking SoCallians (those who have not yet posted in this thread), don't make me start putting SNs in the thread title . . .

We aren't available either of the December dates but the January ones might work. We don't really know what our schedule will be like in January because Mike might be going to France for work - we don't know when. We are also planning on getting a puppy around then so that might get in the way of us being able to drive all the way to L.A. We would be very happy to host at our house but it may be too far for some to drive all the way to San Diego.

Regardless, if we're going to manage to get together, SOMEONE is going to have to drive a fair distance, neh? I can only speak for myself, but I'd be ok with being one of the someones.

Juliette, do you guys have any idea when Mike might know about January? Y'all are the ones I haven't seen for the longest . . .

I'm a newbie, so don't carry much weight, but I could potentially be available for the january-type dates. I'm sitting around in the south bay at the moment.

The way my company functions it's quite possible that I won't know whether or not I'm going until the day before. And, once there, it's actually likely that I won't know when I'm returning until the day before. We've had a number of "one-week visits" continue for over a month.
Having said that, they did give me over a month of notice that I might be going, which is a good sign that they're planning ahead this time, and the program I'd be going over there for is much less likely to keep us there long term. Still, I almost certainly won't know before the new year.

My brother is stationed in San Diego, but the wedding will be somewhere around LA, as the bride is from the County of Orange.

So what do you suggest, saxy? We could pick a date, and tentatively make it at y'all's place, with mine as a fallback. Would that be ok?
Primal, O.C. is adjacent to L.A., but there are parts that are almost as far from me as San Diego is.
