EDIT: Deadline extended till Friday in consideration of Dr. Strangelove.
More roles!: New roles have opened up, including Peter, battle school children (for background noise), Ender's mom & dad (maybe) and ENDER.
Keep in mind that due to time constrains, the dead line is STILL 11/20. There's no official script yet, so just use the lines either in this script or in the one that Lyrhawn(?) wrote. You can also use a quote from the book.
HIVE QUEEN: What exactly do you guys think the hive queen would look like? Right now, I can only give myself a picture of Alexia Ashford, but she has a slight humanoid appearance...I need ideas...
EDIT: This may or may not be the final script, it is to be used for casting only. Once final script is out, I'll announce who got which role. Thanks.
**Auditions stuff at end of post**
No, I don't have the actual trailer. I'm just here to announce that I have decided to create a trailer and instead of film I'm going to use animation. Why am I doing this? Because I couldn't come up with anything else for my final project in my Motion Graphics class and because it would look GREAT on my portfolio.
Now, I need to ask for a few favors before I do anything. For the following script, I need to find music that fits what's happening. Can anyone help me out? The best music I could find was Pompeii by E.S. Posthumus however I heard from someone that it was already used on the trailer for the Fantastic 4 (which I haven't seen).
***Start Trailer***
Text: "Some say that life is but a game..." (flash of Giant game) *fades into* (a few seconds of commander's giving orders (audio) and the children reply with militaristic voices (you'll see what I mean with this)*
Text: "But, in this world, the entire human race depends on that game..." *fades into* Text: "and the only one who can win, is a child."
*flash of a child playing with the simulator*
*cut into battle room, the children are playing with the flash guns and the like, very actiony*
*fades into graff walking into the Wiggin household saying "I'm here to see your son."
Text: "What do you make of a world, where there is no such thing as childhood?"
Ender's mother: "(Says something to Graff about how she doesn't want Ender to go.)
Graff looks at Ender," Will you go?" Ender nods, "I'll go."
Graff and Ender drive away, Ender's family is in the lawn looking as they leave, mom is crying. *fades into black*
Text: "In this world..."
"Children are soldiers"
Next we show various action clips of the movie, *music get's strong* including his fight with Bonzo and Petra fainting. Oh, and don't forget that view of Earth from a window of the Battle school. (and for some reason I want to insert a woman/girl screaming "ENDER!!!!" at the end right before...) *cuts to black*
*title fades in* ENDER'S GAME
*fades into* Coming soon *fades into* (That screen with all the titles, rating and production stuff that floods all the screen)
In the background, some light music that fits the mood will play, something that sounds sci-fi but sophisticated, not "nerdy".
***End trailer***
AUDITIONS I need someone to be the voice of Graff. Please recite the "text" part of the script and send it to me at "belldanime@gmail.com" Please do so promptly. The one cast will be announced as soon as I have enough entries to judge from.
I also need someone to be the voice of Valentine when she screams "Ender!" at the end. For this I obviously need a female. Please send your entries to the address specified above.

Hmm... I think I'm imagining this much less fast pace than you are. Cause I'm seeing this with the theme to The Last Castle by Jerry Goldsmith in the background, it's a slow sort of military trumpet tune. It actually fits it perfectly, cause about mid way through the lone trumpet (backed up by quiet strings) gets louder and more powerful and gets backed up by a military-like drum beat. Which if timed right would go well for right here:
quote:Text: "In this world..."
"Children are soldiers"
Though, I might actually replace it with something else there... it sounds almost like you want hard rock for that part

Ender would be scremed by Valentine I'd think. Or, you could make it Dink Meeker screaming "ENDER" when he's being prevented from reaching Ender during the Bonzo fight.
I'd have to read Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow again to be able to comment on that more clearly, but I can think of some ways to include some nice pieces of text in there.
And, I think an Ender's Game trailer should be voiceovered by Graff himself, speaking as Graff.

I'd like that, but I'd need someone to be the voice of Graff. Unless you want him to sound a little...uh..feminine.
EDIT: I've opened up auditions, I hope people enter.

When is this thing due Alt? You've given be the itch to reread the relevant material and try to create my own version of the trailer, which you may or may not find beneficial to your project.
Also, I think you might want to include a snippet from the competing storylines. Having Graff do the narration allows you to seamlessly cover all the angles (sure, so does a third person voiceover by the moviephone guy, but I've always liked the personal touch). But maybe you could do something like (towards the end):
Voiceover of Graff: "In the past, children have always been spared the cruelties of war." (Show some of the fighting on Eros, and some sweet CGI flashes of the IF blowing up bugger ships) "But what do you make of a world where there is no childhood?"
(switch to a scene of Ender and Valentine on the raft on the lake)
Valentine - "We aren't just ordinary children, are we. None of us."
(halfway through the quote, pan through a series of images from the space station, to a fleet ship, and down to Valentine at a computer with Peter staring over her shoulder, touches on all the plotlines)
Ender - "Don't you sometimes wish we were?"
(back to Graff voiceover)
"I suppose it was a dream to think we could spare children from war, now, children ARE war. Human beings are free except when humanity needs them. And against the Formics (or buggers)(flash to image of bugger queen), we most certainly need them." (during this quote I'd pan to Ender giving orders, and then to a wide shot of the battle room with stars everywhere. When it hits the "human beings..." part, focus in on Ender and slowly draw the camera back. I think it'd be a nice juxtaposition of innocence with perceived malevolence)
I think instead of having the scene end with Val screaming "ENDER" (Which works, don't get me wrong), it should end with Bean saying "Remember, the enemy's gate is DOWN." Screaming Ender's name makes me think of every Harry Potter trailer ever made. Hermione or someone else is always screaming "HARRY" at the end.
I like snippets from the Giant's Game, and for imagery, I think you'd have to do Ender's image walking up to the Giant's Table, and I also like showing a flash of the "THE END OF THE WORLD" sign above the door when he reaches that part of the game. It's dramatic enough to fit in with a trailer.
There are a wealth of great quotes that would overlay with images perfectly, though I guess you can't put in TOO many if Graff is narrating.
Just some preliminary thoughts after 30 minutes of thought.
(Wow, just realized what time it was, I should've been in bed hours ago!)

I like what you have put together, but I only have until December 6th and I also have to worry about other projects. I might be able to work something up though, since I just got 3DS Max.

I would love to be the voice of Graff, and I think I have a sufficiently deep voice...unfortunately I have no recording equipment. Good luck!

I'm pretty handy with the intense sounding piano music.
You might try listening to Divinity I and Divinity II tracks from the Final Fantasy: Advent Children movie soundtrack. Tell me if thats the feel your going for.

If it's good for Ender's Game, it's good for me.

Actually, if anyone knows how to work on 3D animation programs, please let me know since I need help getting the footage. I'll do my best when it comes to the whole modeling and animation thing, but I am allowed to use footage that was not made by me since this is a motion graphics class, I'm supposed to EDIT the footage and create motion graphics using After Effects.
Please understand that I will not be able to make this trailer the bestest quality possible because of time constraints. Your help is greatly appreciated.

This is such a cool project - I wish I could help, but sadly I'm not so good with animation and all that jazz. Can we see it when you're done?

Sure, I'll post it on YouTube, MySpace and Google Video.
EDIT: I also think that a song by "Godspeed you black emperor" could fit the theme. Their songs sound very patriotic and yet are filled with actiony parts.
BTW, can anyone help me find 3D models that would do for the following stuff? It would seriously save me a lot of work. Those with the word check have been found.:
I'm uploading some of what I have to YouTube. I went with using titles for now because I have to concentrate on motion graphics and not video editting. Auditions are STILL open though for I will still need the audio.

Alteriel- you need some original film score music for it? I can compose something for you and mp3 that bad boy in no time! It would be fun!
I've actually been conceptualizing over the last month or so on my senior project for composition- I think it will be a set of piano quintet preluds entitled: "The end of the world," of which one of the images is Ender's Game. It's a literary kind of project.
Anyway I can put something together for a short film pretty easily- if your interested?

For music, why not check stockmusic.com? You have to buy the track you want for $30, but it's all really good music and you can search by "theme" (i.e. military, etc.).
Of course, I'd be inclinced to go with Orincoro's offer, myself, but just in case you don't want to....

Go ahead and compose something Orincoro, since at this stage I've not decided whether I will use "The Last Castle" and "Divinity" or not. I really like them and I think they would be perfect, but if you can compose something that goes better, then go ahead. Impress me.
Thanks to everyone that is helping me, I really appreciate this!
EDIT: BTW, Orin, please send me your music in WAV format, After Effects shuns mp3s.

What a cool idea Alt! Where is this motion graphics class of yours? I've been trying to find info on schools that teach that sort of thing. I can send you what I've made in After Effects.
Anyway, I've always thought Yoko Kanno's "Stamina Rose" would work well in a game battle sequence. Not sure about a trailer though.
...
Is this legal? Should we go poke OSC and ask him first?

My cousin Ike found this. Somewhere in the middle the song goes all crazy, I think that it works out BEAUTIFULLY PERFECT.

You might want to send an e-mail through the "Contact Us" link to get a quicker response from OSC. Would be a shame to go to all the work and then not be able to post. Maybe they could set it up so that it is actually on Hatrack

Altariel, I have "whistled" your post on the other side to make sure it comes to Papa Moose's attention, and thus (I expect) to OSC's.

I've not received entries from anyone and it's just 4 days till the due date. My cousin has volunteered to do the voice of Graff, but I have let him know that he may or may not get the part since he is auditioning just like everyone else.

I can't receive multimedia to my phone, but you should send my recording to my email. I have a computer again, so you I'm usually signed into Aim there now. (Haven't you noticed I type faster now? Or did you think I had ninjarific txting skills?)
Perhaps we could get ourselves into an AIM conversation later on today? I won't be home until around 7pm PST.

That music is quite... frenetic. I was imagining something more moving perhaps. The book never struck me as very techno

Yeah, but the story is futuristic and sci-fi. Besides, on the places where it gets all frenetic are going to be the exciting stuff that is found on all action film trailers.

I haven't had a chance to buy a mic yet ... if I do within the next few days, I'll definitely be submitting it. But I don't know if I will or not. We shall see.
Oh, and the music seemed frenetic to me too, but I think you can pull if off.
