I've been meaning to learn more programming languages. All I know right now is some basic C++. I just downloaded Java/Netbeans and am wondering, does anyone here program in Java? It's much easier to learn from a person than from a text file. So if anyone offers to help, I'll give you my email so we can chat on MSN or something.

I can help a bit, if it comes to that. But there are LOTS of people on here who're better Java programmers than I, so you're better off waiting for one of them to volunteer.
Edit: you won't have to wait long, apparently. *grin*

I can help search for why exceptions are being thrown but...starting from scratch I couldn't teach anybody.

I enjoy teaching programming, and I am currently studying for my Java 5.0 certification, so the finer points of the language are at the forefront of my mind.
I'd love to help you.
Oh and my non-work email is phil.meyer at gmail.com, though I only occasionally check that one.
Edit: My first point of advice, start with Java 5.0. The typed collections alone will save you an infinite amount of heart-ache. Enums are wonderful as well, and var-arg methods are very cool.
