Long story -- short version is that I can't configure outlook/outlook express to send email from my comcast account because apparently Comcast blocks ports 25 (and 587), and I haven't been able to find out which one I'm supposed to use. Does anyone know? --j_k

That's the one I've been using. It doesn't work at all :-/ Still no luck. I wonder if the fact that I'm away at college has anything to do with it? --j_k

Sucess! I'm using the university outgoing mail server as my outgoing smtp server for the comcast account. --j_k

Comcast blockes access to their smtp server from non-comcast IP addresses.

Aw man, I could have totally asked a friend in our enhanced customer care area, given you an answer as if I knew it, and totally looked all smart and helpful.

m_p_h: that makes sense. It seems like it might have the potential for abuse. In any case, I'm wondering if I might get in trouble for using the university server for Comcast stuff. --j_k

Nope, if they have it configured to accept it, they don't care.
