Seriously, there are so many halfway decent songs...and then I see the video, and it's such a letdown.
I'm the kind of person who is fascinated by dancing and pretty colors, and if the video is my first exposure to the song, I'll generally pay attention enough to like it (which is how I got into Rhianna's "S.O.S." song). But so many videos are ridiculous.
Like Beyonce's "Deja Vu." I mean, the song is mediocre to begin with, but it's supposed to be how she's all crazy about Jay-Z, right? And then during his rap part, she's shaking her stuff all up on him and staring adoringly at him...and he looks like he's pissed off and giving her the silent treatment.

A friend of mine emailed me a link to this* site, which has quite a few music videos that I haven't seen since the early days of MTV. Many of them suck, but it's fun watching them figure out the parameters of the medium.
*note that despite the suspect looking URL, there is nothing obscene on this particular page. If you follow the "more videos" link as I did, though (while there are lots of groups I remember, they typically only have one video per group, and often it's not the one that I'd really like to see again. I clicked on the link hoping that there would be more videos by those same artists), you'll find yourself on a page with links to porn. I was also concerned with spyware or malware on the page, but after watching some of the music videos I checked and didn't find any nasty surprises on my system.

GAH. Yes. First of all, that song "Buttons"...I thought at first that it said "Pushing on my buns, baby." Which made sense to me because it's the Pussycat Dolls, and you know, they should just stick to dancing and not record albums so that I don't have to look at or hear them.
This new video, what the crap? That shot of the main one behind the foggy glass? Gah.
