I use a joystick in any flight sim, I prefer the realism involved and the feel of using my joystick. In BF2 I can do loop to loops with my J-10 and can pilot helicopters.

Haven't used a joystick since playing X-Wing on my old 386. Oh was I happy the day my dad upgraded us from 2 RAM to 4 RAM so the chopiness would go away.

I've found that mice are better for flying the choppers in BF 2. Planes need the constant input that joysticks give, but the helicopters only need you to tilt the chopper in the right direction once, and it just continues the motion afterwards. Joystick just makes it harder to keep from crashing after that.
