Last year we had a comprehensive gift exchange, and more than fifty people participated. I think everyone was happy. The present quid sent me from Sri Lanka actually traveled to the USA TWICE after I didn't pick it up from the post office in time and it was sent back. (It was wonderful, by the way, and someone commented on The Jam Fruit Tree in my bookshelf just last month.)
I think it was a real success - I had a blast. There were one or two people that didn't get a present, and we are going to try very hard to make sure that doesn't happen this year. I and Coccinelle will be happy to organize it again this year. What do you think?
To participate in the Hatrack December Gift Exchange:
E-mail the following to HatrackGiftExchange@gmail.com:
Intent to participate
Mailing address (if you are at college, please include both school and home addresses)
Favorite Hatrack moment (for the game)
Nov. 30 1. We will send an e-mail to everyone who has e-mailed with their mailing address telling them who they got, and that person's mailing address. 2. Everyone will e-mail back with aknowledgement.
Dec 10 Mail packages by this date. Do not spend more than $10 on the present, although if you find something perfect and it's still less than twenty, that's okay. The spending limit is to keep this from becoming a financial burden on anyone. :)It's important to mail it by the tenth because we have some college students and last year there were some who didn't get their packages until they came back after December break. ------ Last year, I got a book and two fabulous Bollywood musicals from quid, along with some Sri Lankan candy. It was yummy and very fun. The year before, I got a Chinese cookbook from Annie. I love this game. Sign up to play!

This is really a lot of fun. I'll be participating in my third year! My first year I got a great DVD musical from Speed, and last year raventh1 sent me the coveted Yo-yo Ma/Bobby McFerrin CD. Good times!!

I got a Fozzy Bear doll from Boris last year, and I made Mrs. M some bracelets. I won't do it unless I can for sure participate (oh the life of a poor college student) but I will attest to the funness factor.

I just sent an email. I love the gift I got from Kwea and Jenni. It was a battery powered reading light that clips to the book.

I'll consider doing this if I can get someone to think up gift ideas for me. I suck at finding a gift for someone without being overly obvious about it.

Remember! Home made gifts are the best. So if you can do that, do so. We'll also need a "what I want for the holidays" thread, that tells about allergies, and genders and the like. Kat, you said we, but if you need any help, let me know, I love organizing, and have quite a bit of free time on my hands.
Last year I got three nutbutters and an LM Montgomery book from Plaid. And I sent a package of stuff nothing too exciting to Zevlag just days before he left on his mission.

I loved it last year. *Giving* the present was as much fun as receiving. I'd never sent anything to Sri Lanka before.
I'd like to join in, but I can't make those dates. We're leaving for FL on the night of Nov 29 and won't be back until the 11th. Can I still play if you promise not to give me a college student?

Ooooh. I've been too busy to consider doing this the past 2 years. Wasn't there one two years ago too? Anyway, I might be in this time. Still thinking.

I've never done this before -- I was too much of a lurker until this year. You all promise you're not just hyping it up so us gullible weenies will give you presents?

I suppose it should be made clear that this is not (as far as I know) an officially sanctioned Hatrack event. I'm relatively confident that the Cards are supportive of such endeavors, as they contribute to the "community" of Hatrack (confident enough to sticky the thread, anyway).
But despite its imprecise wording, please let this serve as a disclaimer of sorts, that Hatrack River does not guarantee delivery of gifts, takes no responsibility for the sharing of personal information such as physical addresses, etc., etc., yadda yadda yadda, bada bing, bada boom, Betty Boop.

Kama, we could send it to Poland. Will you be seeing your family at Christmas? You could get it there.
Or, alternatively, if you still want to play, whoever has you could wait until you know your address. You may not get it by...um...oh, you know, the end of December *waffles*, but you still could play if you are willing to celebrate January instead.

I'm in. It was really awesome last year (worships the awesomeness of Narnia once more). Might be even more fun now that some people actually know me

I haven't participated in the past, but I am in this year as soon as I think up my favorite hatrack moment.

Oh, mine is a total giveaway as well. I'm going to have to think of a different one if I do this, I think.

You don't have to do the Hatrack moment thing to play. Confession: I included it because 1) it sounded like fun, and 2) gave me an excuse to bump the thread everyday.

Didn't we do something where people listed their interests to give their secret person an idea of what they'd like?

This is going to be fun! I promised kat that I would help her out this year and I'm looking forward to communicating with y'all
Last year people did list their interests and I think it would be great to do that again this year. Post them here in this thread.

certainly! Do you want to combine or do two?
quote:Except, I'm not quite sure what you mean by favourite Hatrack moment?
What is it for? What game?
Does it have to be about me, or can it be about other people?
The quote game was used last year in the downtime while people waited to get their matches and presents. kat posted a favorite moment and people guessed who it belonged to. It doesn't have to be about you, just a memorable hatrack moment. Hatrack moments are not a requirement, but definately fun for us to read

Just a note about my email address. The one I sent the email from is different than the one I had last year. The new one is derrellf AT gmail DOT com.

I tossed all the files from last year as soon as the exchange was over, so whatever you send to the address above is what we are going from.

I for one would like to say that I have no earthly idea what these would be. Enough of the people and circumstances and relationships and events here are still new to me, so I wouldn't mind hearing about an "obvious" event that may be what will define you most to me as a person on hatrack.
I do remember that Neomon was one of the first people to welcome me to hatrack, and he (you are a HE, aren't you?) made me feel like it mattered to someone that I had come. That meant a lot to me.
