Mr. Card, I remember brought this up at a writing class, and you repeated it in one of your reviews, about the problem with comic book villains, how they just aren't believable characters. I'm a long-time reader of comic books and understand this particular problem, but when I read that you'd sampled some of Kurt Busiek's work, I thought this might interest you.
Busiek's been doing some interesting work with storytelling in comic books, particularly with his series "Astro City." There are a few graphic novels out under this title, but the one I think that might interest you, in regard to better-developed comic book villains, is the volume entitled "Tarnished Angel." This particular graphic novel is about a comic book villain who has just been released from prison and how friends from his old life seek to draw him back into the old business.
Mind you, this isn't my favorite book out of the "Astro City" series, but I thought it worth mentioning to you.
