My brother was born on 05-15-75. I was due in June the next year, and my mother was really gunning for 06-16-76. Alas, the c-sectioning doctor did not cooperate.

I don't think the parties would change that much. But MAYBE they would...
I wish it didn't matter who got elected President. I read someone saying a little while ago that they wished that states had most of the governing rights over their states and that the federal gov't took care of... well, I don't remember... but it was a lot less.
Back to your original question, though, there are some pretty cool "smaller" politicians. I like Georgia's Zell Miller. And he's a democrat! (Although I'm not sure Dems want to claim him after his Bush support.)
If we got rid of the BIG guys, maybe the little guys would do things differently.
But what about the secret organizations that control everything anyway, on both sides??? Are they still around???

I happen to believe that professionalism does matter, and that it is reflected in how you dress, therefore I see absolutely no problem with her imposing a dress code.
Granted, she sounds like a class A witch with a capitol "b" and I'm not defending some of her comments, like the WalMart one, I also agree there are probably more pressing issues for your school and for her to make this her foremost one might be questionable.
However, I do believe that people in all professions need to accept that part of working and being a professional may well be dressing like one. And I do not think jeans, polo shirts, and sneakers constitutes professional dress. Sorry.

My stepmom and I have a running argument that phrases like "I have seen" and "I have done" are not as correct as "I saw" and "I did". I say they are, and the verb is just conjugated differently, but she says they're wrong. Who's right? How did the two ways of saying essentialy the same thing develop?

Clove oil. It may sound like snake oil, but it works pretty well for a home remedy. When I had to get a dry socket packed last summer, the dentist actually used clove paste.

I know I'm missing something, but what is the Paul is dead hoax, I have never heard of it, what happened, who believed it, why do you think the beatles originated it?
I'm a pretty big beatles fan, but I was born after John Lennon died, so I missed most of the press coverage.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned The Green Mile. That's the only movie I've seen in the theaters during which I haven't been able to hold them back. Though I do still get misty at the aftermath scene in Top Gun, among others.

Well, I figured I'd better post in here now that it is nearly official and all. I'll be a Phoenixite in about a week, living and working there indefinitely.
I believe (this is less official) that I'll be in the Paradise Valley area of Phoenix near Northern Avenue and 51.
So, now that that is covered, who's up for lunch this Sunday (the 25th)? I have to be in Phoenix at 8 for a CAD test, finish that about 9, and then have until 1:30 free it looks like. E-mail or drop a post here I suppose if you're absolutely dying for something to do then.

Thank you Ein [Smile] Yeah. Cowboy Bebop was great. I don't think western producers could make something of that caliber (And if they did, it wouldn't be just 26 episodes). At any rate, if you haven't already checked out Trigun, do so (And don't let the first few episodes fool you. It actually gets REALLY serious near the end of the series). That's the one that showed me not all Anime sucks, just Dragonball, Pokemon, and the like. There was, of course, another great short series (about 20 episodes) based on the Gundam universe I saw a few years ago (Can't remember the title) that was incredibly well done also.

We do have counselling and stuff available for children.
The ones that are free shouldn't be an issue.
Going to a doctor will cost her however - we have Medicare as a health system which means Australians can effectively receive free treatment but it doesn't extend to foreigners. Some countries (like France) have a reciprocal agreement with us, but I'm pretty sure the US doesn't.
The best place for your friend to start is Kids helpline : free and confidential telephone counselling service. Available nationwide, free phone number.
They should be able to give her advice, and local contacts.

I may have slightly exaggerated the sock-refusal on Tony's part.
He has now read the thread and is insisting he has the future rights of one sock-refusal - no matter the circumstances.

We have a (cassette) tape of the production of It's Cool in the Furnace my sisters were in in 1979. We used to listen to it all the time as kids. I wish our church did more of this kind of stuff sometimes.

quote: I work in Forest Park, Illinois. The nearest trauma center is Loyola. Loyola received a waiver for informed consent from the FDA for a "study" they'll do with a new blood substitute. Anyone in an accident and who is unconscious will either receive plasma or the new product. Those who receive the experimental product will continue to receive it when they get to the hospital. Those who receive plasma will get whole blood if they need it.
The last time they tested one of these products under these rules, there was a higher than expected death rate and they had to discontinue the study. So people who never gave their permission to be guinea pigs died as a result of the nonvoluntary participation.
Here's the email I received a few days ago:
quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subj: PolyHeme Date: 10/12/04 12:02:34 PM Central Daylight Time From: BLOODSUBSTITUTE@lumc.edu (BLOODSUBSTITUTE) To: sndrake@aol.com
If you need a bracelet so that you may decline participation in the PolyHeme study please send us name, address and number of bracelets needed as a reply to this email.
I talked to a few people at work about this. So far, the first any of them have heard of this is from ME. Interesting, considering the hospital was required to do community education and outreach.
It pisses me off that I have to wear a bracelet to avoid the possibility of being a guinea pig. It pisses me off that the ACLU is apparently too busy fighting for the rights of guardians to end the lives of people like Terri Schiavo to view this as a threat to indivdual autonomy and privacy.
I'll probably order around 20 - Diane wants one and two other coworkers also want one so far.
For more information on this particular study, check out this thread.
For more info on the earlier study and how the press initially missed the connection between the consent waiver and the discontinued blood substitute study, check out Media hasn't put 2 and 2 together (It's the second article on the page, after Mike Ervin's "Guinea Pigs Don't Get to Say 'No'".

I know I'll do great on the written part, but I'm seriously worried about the driving part. My mom has been pushing me to get my license even though I know that I probably don't have enough driving experience. My main concern is backing into parking spaces because I have to use the car that belongs to my driving school, which is a bit smaller than the one I've been practicing on with my parents. I should be fine if I have to back into a spot on the right side, but if I have to back in on the left I could be in trouble. The test starts in an hour. Wish me luck! And thanks for letting me vent my nerves.
