I've just registered here and have a question that perhaps you could help with. I live in Florida, and I'm sure there must be writing workshops and so on available, but I honestly have no idea how or where to begin. I live in the Daytona Beach area on the east coast, about an hour from Orlando.
Does anyone know how I can find out about conferences and workshops in my area? Thank you for the help!

Unfortunately, I don't really know how to help you with that, but there are many wise people here who will find the answer. I just wanted to say hi, and I hope you like it here!

Hi Kah-Lea! I live in Orange City but work in Daytona Beach, and I write a lot. What sort of writing are you interested in? I'm not in any local writing groups but I know of a few, they tend to stick with specific genres.

I know of a lot of writing groups and writing classes on the internet, but then, since I live in outer darkness, it's the only way I'd ever be able to be involved. Let me know if you want more info.
But Florida? Nope, no idea.
Oh, wait! There's that shawguides thingy. Let me find the link for you. Hang on. *scrounges around* Got it. Go to http://writing.shawguides.com/ and you can search by location, month, and more. That'd be a great place to start.

Also when I get to work tomorrow I'll check with my friend who also writes and has been involved with several of the local groups. You might consider writing her through her site, http://www.ancuairt.org/logology . I know she's been active with the Florida Writers Association, and a local romance writers group (she doesn't write romance, but you won't find a genre that encourages professional work habits or tighter scripting than romance writers).
