I still wanna' know whats up with the old man. Is he crazy, or psychic or what? And why does the doll talk? And is Lil' Slugger really evil?

Awesome show. I'm dying to see how it all wraps up in the end. I wasn't too impressed by the first episode but they keep getting better and better. The most recent one with Marie/Hiromi was so...woah.
(though I'm ticked that whoever dubbed it, didn't take the time to translate all the written print which is important to the plot.)

In the opening song it shows the old guy in a tux with the world blowing up behind him. I think he was someone important before he went nuts or senile. I think he knows what is really going on. Maybe he had something to do with bringing about Lil' Slugger, because I wonder if Lil' Slugger is even a real kid... or maybe some sort of phantom or creation. Or maybe he's a group delusion.
Everyone is terrified of him, but after the attacks his victims seem to be more at peace. Maybe he is a symbol for our fears.

Trainer + animal/monster/sidekick training to fight other Trainers + animals/monsters/sidekicks to become stronger and win.
"Win" is usually vaguely defined and secondary to half-hour speeches about the importance of teamwork and friendship. Right before you tell your "friend" to go pick a fight. (Kinda like the Lone Ranger sending Tonto to gather information)
Such shows are usually tied to card games or similar marketing ploys - Pokemon, Duel Monsters (Yu gi oh), Zatch Bell, Monster Rancher and so forth.
Not to unfairly single out these particular shows - you have similar generalizations about most genres. Buddy flicks, "I must avenge my master" kung-fu films, family "oh I hate you but in an hour we're going to learn to truly value each other as people and not hate you for the crass, materialistic snot you really are" dramas and so on.
How many movies have you gone to knowing the core plot and just watched the eye candy and special effects?
