I had orientation for my job at Walmart today. Originally, they had me down as working in the food department. Then they realized that the guy who made up the schedules screwed up and had me scheduled to work nights. The Walmart here is not 24-hour, so I would have been working as an over-night stocker (The possibility for confusion over that job title is just...hilarious). They pay 1.50 more for that position, so I said okay. After an hour of orientation (and thinking about what working nights would do to me and my attempts to overcome insomnia), I asked them if it wouldn't be too big a deal to change back. So the personel lady talked to the store manager and (I suppose) that he and another store manager were talking about moving someone into Electronics. They knew I had the qualifications required to do so, so they aparently just moved me into that position. So yeah. I went from food clerk, to over-night stalker ( ), to Electronics department in the period of 3 hours. Not bad, eh?

Back in the day when I used to work in a grocery store, we were reviewing some applications for a job opening. Not that it was my job to do so, but they were so funny that the boss just had to share with the rest of us. No fewer than 3 people applied to be a "stalker". They didn't get hired.

I actually had three different pay scales as well. 5.70 for food clerk, 7.20 for overnight, 6.10 for electronics (.50 more in 90 days...assuming I survive ). Considering the wackoness that would have resulted from me working from 10pm to 7am (Not to mention the complete destruction of my already minimal social life), 1.10 an hour less to work in my favorite department ever is a good enough bargain for me

Hey, after dealing with a boss who pays himself to steal money from people and shaft his employees, I'm looking forward to something with some structure to it

If a) you don't need to clean poop and b) no one bites you, it's a good job. Don't complain too much.

Both. *grin* One community living; Educational Assistant all across the school board, all ages and disabilities; and staff at an "institution." Strangely, I still love what I do. I'll love it even more when the toothmark bruises fade.

I worked at Wal-Mart for two years, and survived. Of course, I was in the jewelry counter, and got to skip the morning meetings (I only had to do the 'cheer' twice) and I didn't have to wear the smock.
*shrug*
It's not so bad as long as you remember it's Just a Job. Management tends to take the whole 'Wal-Mart Cult' thing too far. I remember doing these orientation modules on the company computers and one of them centered around physical fitness. Totally weird. Funny thing, though, in the computer learning area someone had written on one of the motivational signs "Sam is watching you!" Tee-hee.

jexx is on the ball with this one. I once worked in a warehouse packing boxes, and gladly took my measley wages, only getting upset when the management made me leave early and get less than full-time hours.
Just remember that you're going to college, and unlike some unlucky others, you don't have to do this for the rest of your life.

And just because I do not hate you, I give you some pearls of wisdome as you enter into the dim and shadowy world that is Wal-Mart.
