Glad to see it go, but man! I was really proud of my last post there, and it had only been up for like ten minutes! Oh well. The greater good, I suppose.

I also was pretty fond of my unseen last post! Ah, well.
Anyhow, I don't hate anyone based on their religion. I am most likely to just pepper them with questions due to severe nosiness.
I worked with a Witness and I tortured her with all the questions and requests for Watchtowers. I also would make her sing me with song that listed all the books of the Bible! LOL!
Recently I expanded all my nosiness to the OSC folder and a discussion of the Church of LDS.
My point is that I was rather hoping for a chance here rather than being forced into a box that doesn't fit me. I know my curiousity and love of discussion can look a whole lot like bad manners under certain lights. Michelle

I actually joined several months ago but just have not been around.
I really should be writing. Er, not posts, this short story I'm working on. The thing with me is that the more things I'm supposed to be doing, the more I hang out on message boards. Michelle

Hey Michelle -- you said in the no-longer-existant thread that the second part of your nick was for Ely, MN. Do you live there? I'm in Minneapolis...
Anyway, welcome (back) to Hatrack.

I don't live there <--- one of the saddest sentences I could type. My grandmother lives there, it's her hometown, and she raised me. I miss her like anything and miss being there. It's in my heart.
As obsessive as it seems, I cannot even look at a map on MN without tearing up a little. My house is on the market, but this move has been one delay after another for 2 years. I pray I will be a resident by summer!
I know most people don't understand why anyone would want to move from a cold state - MI - to a colder one! Michelle
I went to Oklahoma for college, and couldn't wait to come back. Good luck in your move. And maybe we can get together when you're back in state, I love meeting Hatrackers in real life. (Plus we're in the same general demographic... I'm 31 and female.)

I really hate it when threads get deleted :/
While I understand why either the mods or Jay may have wished to delete that thread, deleting an entire thread also deletes words that other people have written. It strikes me as... wishful thinking... every time someone deletes a thread. "If I delete it, all that bad karma will dissapear." No, it doesn't. People remember what has been written, and no opportunity is created for people to try to understand whats happened. Michelle seemed honestly interested in finding out why dagonee thought what she said was wrong. That discussion will likely never happen now. The opportunity for understanding is lost, whenever a thread is deleted... and I think, in that thread, there were more people looking to understand then there were people name calling.
I'm really hoping that Jay, and not the mods, deleted that thread.

My matron of honor at my wedding was someone I met on a Sheltie discussion board. I made her fly from Georgia to Two Harbors. My wedding was on the banks of Lake Superior and the water just looks so blue in the photos. Michelle

Hey, I made a newbie mistake. I don't even just mean a Newbie to Hatrack mistake - but an internet newbie mistake. I didn't learn more about the board temperament on these topics. It wasn't until I was way into the thread that I realized, from other comments, that this was something that Dagonee, and others, had been through before. I failed to know the climate of the board.
I don't like thread deletions because I never got to clear up things with the guy who told me I was not worth his time. That(look at the great writing about to occur) really sucks!
I do understand why it was deleted though Michelle

Rivka - Basically, as a former Catholic, I stated my issues with the church and was told I was really pretty ignorant on the topic. There was some back and forth where I tried to make it clear that I would love to have a serious discussion on the matter, and that there were also things I loved about the church. I think some of the people had been through the wringer with anti-Catholic sentiment and thought I was just plain being a negative witch. Michelle

I wish I could say more, but the words aren't coming to my mind. All I can say, without sounding as critical as my problem with the thread, is I am glad its gone.

Welcome! I am another MN resident and would love to meet you if you can make it here...
Sounds like there was a lot of angst on the papalsexuality thread while I was gone. Shame I wasn't around to see it.

ElJay -- where and when did you go to school in Oklahoma? I went to high school there, so most of my friends entered OU or OSU in '92.

I don't understand how you guys can stand the cold weather up there. But then again, I'm a southern boy, born and raised. The few years I spent in PA were enough to turn me off of cold weather for the rest of my life. BRRRRRRRRRR!

In my opinion the only really horrible thing said in the pope thread was when The Pixiest said jokingly "was that before or after the Pope left his NAMBLA meeting?" or words to that effect.
I thought that was in incredibly bad taste, and was going to post that but didn't get a chance.
I don't think Michelle Ely did anything wrong, and I'd like to welcome her to the forum.
That said, I don't blame Dag or Jim-me for getting upset. We all have our hot-button issues and POVs.

Reposting it isn't the brightest thing you have done here, Jay....if the mods don't want it here, and have delelted it, then you should have just left it alone.

Well, I disagree with the mods if they think that news story shouldn’t be posted. How is it not a news worthy topic for us to discuss? I’m a bit upset about them deleting it and waiting for a post about why they did delete it. If they don’t want that kind of thing posted it needs to be in the “rules” somewhere. Plus if they didn’t want it reposted they should have sent me an email explaining their position. Almost seems like someone disagreed with the story and got a bur somewhere it didn’t belong and abused their mod power.

I doubt the story itself was cause for deletion. I'm betting the NAMBLA reference was the main reason.

I'm sorry, I simply can't agree with the decision of the mods to delete that thread. The worst of the posts had been over for 50 posts, and there was an OBVIOUS attempt by one of the major players to develop a dialogue. There were legitimate posts in that thread... more then there were posts that were worthy of deletion. I've never liked the idea of the mods deleting threads, and even more so when they make such a bad decision as deleting a thread where one of the parties that helped get the real nastiness going is looking for a real dialogue.
