I've been a huge fan of Norwich's brilliant narrative history of Byzantium for some years now and even enjoyed Treadgold's dull but valuable textbook, but only recently did I finally get around to starting Ostrogorsky's seminal history, and I've found it extremely interesting.
So, I guess my question is: who is everyone's favorite Constantine? The first is an obvious choice, of course, but I think I have to go with Constantine XI Palaeologus; there's something heroic about the final emperor making his doomed last stand against the Turks.
What do you think? The great iconoclast and general Constantine V? Constantine Porphyrogenitus? Who?

You should probably say something about how this is about the emperors. As of now there are numerous threads entitled Constantine. A few about the movie, a few about the American Idol contestant, and a few on this subject. Just add "the Emperors" to the title and you'll be okay.

Or perhaps everyone other than you would recognize it as a really bad dobie of the others, and ignore it.

Or maybe Dante doesn't realize that he has just made a really bad dobie of all the others! Oh!
Edit: My ears are kind of pointy so don't touch the tips. It might hurt just a little. And don't mind the penguin living in my hair. He only bites people who touch my ears.

<sigh> Kwea et al., this isn't a dobie, good or bad. I just thought I'd take a popular current thread title and jokingly use it because it was closely linked to what I wanted to talk about: the Byzantine empire and texts that treat it. I thought this would be a mildly amusing way to start such a discussion.
Damn my witty, urbane subtlety. It's a curse. It really is.

Silly me, I thought this was about the continous insertions of consumer brand name products in modern motion pictures, and the cross branding of merchandise to pictures and televisions shows, especially those aimed at children.
