Oh, ProlixShore, you have no idea.
The Rhythm and Roots Festival in Rhode Island is all about Zydeco Passion, and that is Rhode Island. I can't even imagine the fanatics in the South. Well, yes, I can, as many come to this fest.
The campgrounds, after the festival music is done for the night, have portable wooden dance floors set up, with lights strung up, and roving bands as good as those featured in the festival.
The Zydeco dancers often wear polka style skirts, and both partners wear these pointy black boots.
It is, as they say in these parts, wicked cool.
Donna the Buffalo plays a lot of zydeco, and they have an offshoot band called Zydeco Experiment. The zydeco bands at Grass Roots play all night, from about 1 AM until 5 AM, and the dance tent is always packed to the gills. It is so much fun.

I have a passion for zydeco. And I'm trying to instill one in Ems, too. *pops in Alligator Stomp*

I got into Zydeco when we heard some at the Live Oak Folk Festival (now, sadly, extinct) when I was about 7. My brother and I liked it so much that my dad went out and found Alligator Stomp and several other albums for us to get into it with, and then began the Savoy-Ducet Cajun Band concerts at McCabes, etc. In short, I've had a passion for Zydeco since I was very small, and it wasn't so much proseltyzing as a religious experience and a father who loved the idea of letting us listen to all kinds of good music, and encouraged it as much as possible.

Keith Frank was in Texas. Where are you in Texas? Close to LA? If you can get to see him, he is so much fun. His little sister, about eight, performs with him, singing and dancing. I have seen her shake it until five AM.
