quote: Side Note: Will someone please respond to one of my posts. The only ones who bother are Mr. Porteiro Head and Beverly, and that is because they know me. I have been reading posts at Hatrack since 2002, so I feel like I know everyone. I realize you don't know me because I am a terrible poster, but I feel very shunned and I don't know what I did wrong.
S4E, I'm sorry you feel ignored. But looking at your posting history, it seems clear that you post very rarely, giving the rest of us little opportunity to get to know you.
When you posted more often (as you did a few months back, for instance), you got responses from several people.
I don't think you did anything wrong. It's just that we (or me, at least) don't really know you.
I'd like to change that. Hi, I'm Rivka.
(BTW, if you'd rather I hadn't started a new thread, I will delete it.)

Welcome, School4Ever. Out of curiosity, is your name intended to mean you intend to be a lifetime student, or just that it feels like you've been in school forever? Either way, welcome to Hatrack, the least Orson Scott Card related Orson Scott Card forum on the planet!

Hello, School4Ever! Really, speaking up like that is the best way to get attention. So, you feel like you know everybody... do please give us a chance to get to know you!

School4Ever. I was confused when I saw this thread, because I recognized your name because I had taken note of some of your posts and knew you weren't a newbie

I know how you feel. I lurked here for a year before posting. Even before I made my first post I already knew everyone and consider some of them soul mates. Just keep posting and when people get to know you better you will get a ton of responses.

Keep in mind that you may be suffereing from one of two things..:
First, people may agree with what you are sating. On-line it is tough sometimes to understand what people think about your posts because all teh non-verbal cues are missing. IRL you might notice people nodding or smiling when you make a point, and that would show you that your points hit home. Here online we sometimes forget to post agreement. I know this has been an issue before with people not feeling like they contribute to threads.
Second, I'll be hinest...I don;t remember a lot of posts by you, but there have been a few other people here that posted with screennames sililar to yours...want2write being the most infamous....and they weren't either very nice or very good posters. I don't remember you being rude or anything...not at all!....but I think at first I was a little wary of you because of that.
I don't remember anything specific posted by you, but I do remember you, and I remember that you seemed cool once I got over accidently confusing you with want2write and that ilk. I hope this makes you feel a bit better about being here. I don't think you were being shunned, as that is a deliberate act, but you were probably either overlooked or confused with someone else.
My only advice would be to keep posting, and let us get to know you better, ok?

Welcome! It took me a while to get into it, as well. Just give it some time and keep on posting.

I know that in the beginning I often felt ignored or inimportant. I didn't think that my posts were adding anything valueable. I am still not sure they do, but the longer I am a regular poster the more people know me and respond to what I say.
Welcome to Hatrack!

Thank you so much for your replies. I thought of posting a "hi, I am new post," but I am not new.
I intend to be a lifelong student, though not in any formal manner. My name derives from the fact that my husband has been in school for the last 12 years (25 if you count public school and such). It feels as if we are never going to leave the school environment. I even went back to school after a six year break and am graduating in May. We still don't know when my husband will finish. Now I am thinking about getting a Ph.D. while he finishes his.
One of my problems with posting a lot is I don't remember my password. So I go and check the site, and think about making a comment, hit "post a reply" and then it tells me I have to log in. Since I am usually not on this particular computer, I end up not saying anything.
I am silly and really like my log in name.

You can change the password to something more memorable, if you like.
Click on the "My Profile" link at the top, then on "View/Update Profile." Then just enter a new password and click "Update Profile" (down at the bottom of the page).
I log in from a whole slew of computers. I'd never manage if my password weren't easy for me to remember.

I just do the same password for everything, which can be risky if somone figures it out, but I like the simplicity.

I wouldn't say it is a music term. It is not a real word and it exists because of music. I actually came up with it when I was 11 or 12 because it had something to do with the guy I liked at the time.
