Yeah, I knew I was in trouble when the doc told me that not having pneumonia was the "good news". The bad news? Bronchitis. Apparently it was well on its way to pneumonia but the doc thinks we caught it in time. However if I start running a fever I'm supposed to call him that instant. He knows I don't normally come in untill I'm *really* sick so I got the lecture on calling him. At least he was open for office hours yesterday and was able to squeeze me in.

Feel better, AJ. And please, don't ever wait until you are really sick. If you think there is even a chance of some kind of infection, go to the doctor.
By the way, I have fresh, living flowers in my kitchen!!

Well technically I'd been sick for over a week. What actually got me to the doctor was sleeping on the couch becase it propped me up better than my bed, and the coughing wasn't so bad...

AJ, I'm just now starting to get over it. The doc said I had broncitis a week after Thanksgiving. A week later, still feeling like hell and with lungs that rattled when I breathed, I went back, and was well on my way to pneumonia. He gave me antibiotics, and two weeks later I am now starting to feel somewhat better. I still hack but I don't need a narcotic to sleep, which is nice.
I've never had broncitis before...but I must say it sucks.
I hope you get better much quicker than I have.

I had bronchitis many times as a kid. I'm told that's why when I get a cold now, the cough sticks around for weeks after everything else is cleared up.

I'm on hydrocodone, and definitely feeling the loopiness... hopefully I'll be able to cut back on it on monday so I can work. Or what I'll do is just wait til I get to work to take it in the morning and take it at lunch so that the effects can wear off by the time I need to drive again.

Once I waited with a sinus infection too long, because I was at a new job and didn't want to take time off. The president of the company forced me to leave, because he saw me and was aghast at how sick I was.
I was almost hospitalized, the sinus x-rays showed extensive pockets of infection. It was terrible.
Never wait too late, kiddies - doctors are there for a reason.

lol, I was just thinking and being thankful I no longer live at home. Because I actually went to the doctor sooner, than if it was my mother making the decision... You had to be sure you were *really* sick before she'd take you to the doc.

I once had a fever for two days (a Saturday and Sunday ) and then the fever broke on Sunday afternoon and I felt well enough to go to work on Monday. Tuesday, about noon, it suddenly felt like I had a three-hundred pound man sitting on my chest.
At the time, I didn't have insurance and called a community clinic (basically a free clinic) and told them what I felt like and they said to come in right away. The doctor said I had a bad case of bronchitis, but, oh by the way, I have 15 students here taking a tour and would you mind if they come listen to your chest so they can learn what bronchitis sounds like? Sure, I say, you all are doing me a huge favor so, no problem. Then he tells me that he wants to send me over to the hospital for X-rays, just in case and so the students can see what it will look like on the X-rays.
They give me a voucher and send me over and two hours later, they call me back at work and say, "Whoops, you actually double pneumonia and you need to start this medication right away and here's the next pharmacy on the list that donates meds for us so you don't have to pay for the medication. (This all happened right after I started a new job and didn't have insurance, or money for that matter.) Two days later, they have me come in again to be checked and say that from the way I had improved, and because there were 3 KU football players in the hospital with it, they were sure I had bacterial pneumonia.
Weak football players. I had to get a note from my doctor to explain to my jerk boss why I had only worked 45 hours that week instead of 60. and they are laying about a hospital? (When I got my next paycheck, I did go back and "donate" the amount of my meds.)
I've had pneumonia 3 times and so I feel quite comfortable in saying that if it feels like you have a three-hundred pound man sitting on your chest, you more than likely have pneumonia and should immediately go to the doctor.

I am frightened of infections, now, as they can turn into strange things. It is a problem, actually, as I am feeling more general fear than I ever have.

Thanks, Sara. Funny thing. I read that one of the things about this type of encephalitis, and others, is that the person wakes up and wonders what evryone is so worried about. That was me!I thought, why is my dad here? Why did my aunt drive 3 hrs from NYC and back in one day? As far as I was cocerned, I was fine, even though I couldn't walk, talkd like a drunk, and was seeing double. It didn't really hit me until I was in rehab, and then I broke down one day with the therapist when it sort of all hit me.

*hugs* for Elizabeth. I kind of understand, especially after being sick for what seemed like a year and ending up in the hospital twice myself. But I'm sure not to the same extent of what you went through!
Incidentally I'm feeling much better. Steve has been downright heroic in getting bunches of stuff done that had me totally overwhelmed since I was sick. The post-construction (for the moment) house is 300% better mainly because of him. And I even managed to write thank you cards today!

Banna, Maybe there is something about Steves! It is so much easier to be ill when someone "has your back." I know so many people whose partners fall apart when anything happens. I am glad you are feeling better.
