Dan's 7, Jen's 6.

Hubby says we may get a game system for Christmas. I'm leaning toward a Nintendo system, because I like Mario64 type games. Currently, Hubby's been playing Battlefield 1942 on his PC, but would like to play the new system too.

So the question is, which system should we get? Which one will be "cool" longest, with the best selection of games? Which one have you bought and why?

The X Box has a built in hard drive, so you don't have to buy memory cards.

Then there are games like Halo , Halo 2 , Knights of the Old Republic , Knights of the Old Republic 2 ,and Fable .

I bought X Box for a very simple reason.

My brother in law used to work for microsoft and they are aggressively wooing him back. When he finishes school he will probably go back to work for them.

Which gives me access to the Microsoft insider store where I can get games (I mean, I can get him to get me games) that cost about $4.00.

I got Microsoft Office for $16.00 through that same system. [Evil Laugh]

Just to be clear, Halo, Halo 2, Knights of the Old Republic, Knights of the Old Republic 2, and Fable are not really appropriate for 6- and 7-year-olds. Although your husband might get a kick out of them.

I love Fable but really don't have the hand-eye coordination for the annoying fighting bits. I really like flirting with the ladies and trading between the stores. And exploring. Especially exploring.

I loved the short lived Earth and Beyond because it gave me exp for going new places. Coolest concept ever. I think I heard one of the new MMORPGs does that, too.

But for small children, Nintendo is probably your best bet. They seem to be the ones who really design kid games.

There's a package now that includes GameCube and Mario Kart Double Dash for 99.00.

My son, seven, loves Pokemon channel, which is a tomagachi. Pickman 2 is a great, and different strategy game.

There is adult games as well, no Halo or anything, but all in all, a good system.

I am a die hard ps2 fan. I was won over when they came out with Breath of Fire 3. I understand the Xbox factor, but I am sticking with play station for now.

That being said, Game Cube (which I actively dislike) is much more kid friendly. If my sons was older, I would get a game cube. They do have some cross over games, but the whole mario franchise is devoted to kids.
