Or: It's going to be fun having a traffic safety professional in the family.
So, dkw is on her way to Texas. She is flying down, and then driving Bob's vehicle up while he drives a U-haul. They'll make iowa just in time for Thanksgiving... and for us to celebrate with the traditional holiday unloading of the trailer. No wait... at least, I hope it doesn't become traditional. They're both afk until at least Tuesday evening, btw, or more likely Wednesday afternoon.
Anyway, I just drove Dana to the airport. She wanted to stop at a drugstore on the way to pick up some contact gunk. There is a drug store right on the way, but getting there requires two tight left turns, the second of which is always through a long double line of cars who are backed up at the light you just went through on a green arrow.
We're approaching the light, in the left-hand turn lane. Conversation as follows:
me: I think I'll just hook a U-ie here and go in the side entrance, it's a lot easier than trying to get in the other way.
dkw: It's also illegal.
m: It is not, it's not posted no u-turn.
d: It's illegal to make a U-turn in a controlled intersection... like that car just did.
m: Well why'd you tell me that? Now I'm going to be intentionally breaking the law, if I know.
d: I'm sorry. You could decide you don't believe me. Or that that's the Iowa law.
m: Good point. I'm pretty sure in Minnesota the law is it's legal if you can see 500 feet in all directions and it's not posted otherwise.
d: I'll neglect to mention what state I took driver's ed in.

You know what I'm noticing Super Kat? A complete lack of you on AIM. No, don't get on, I'm already dejected and defeated, so I'll be leaving now. Empty and alone.

*giggle* I also decided that "Don't tell Bob!" is going to be my new tagline whenever I make an automotive manuver of questionable legality... dkw approved.

Dear adorable Hobbesy, I'm not on AIM because...because it didn't occur to me to get on. My mind was filled with "change out of heels, where's my comfortable jeans, check Hatrack, zap some frozen vegetables for dinner, where's my book, hey, I still have the Alias DVDs." to think to.
But now that you're gone, mon frere, there's no point. *sigh*

Well I can't say I've ever told him about one, so no. Besides, after dkw's story about him driving in CA, I'm not worried.

Bob_Scopatz, Hatrack elder statesman and President of the American Association of Traffic Safety Information Professionals... or something like that. I'm too lazy to look up exactly what it's called.

Oh, that Bob. Of course. You people are all related here at Hatrack aren't you?! I refuse to be a part of all this incest.

But seriously, no incest involved. dkw is my sister, and she is engaged to Bob_Scopatz. There are other sibling groups online, several married couples, and one or two parent/child relationships. But I don't think any of them are interconnected.

I'm not related to anyone here. Unless you count the guy I married who hasn't been here since we announced our marriage and the fact that I arrived in his third world country safely?

A motorcycle cop pulls over a young woman in a vehicle and strolls to the window of the car. "Ma'am, I'm afraid I'm going to have to issue you a ticket." The woman batts her pretty eyes at the officer while questioning him, "I didn't do anything illegal did I officer." Unfazed by her beauty the lawman replies, " Well, you performed a turn of questionable legality and I'm going to have to write you up for executing a DTB manuever."

At the moment, he's sleeping. He's not feeling well. Post-Ramadan stuff, same as every year.
But in terms of Hatrack? He only ever came here because of me announcing our impending marriage a year ago. He hasn't ever read anything by OSC (I know, I know. And yet I married him anyway. Now THAT's love.) He just doesn't hang out here.
