This is from a Washington Post article about how the Washington area (that includes Maryland and Virginia) is divided, politically speaking. You can find it here, but I think you need to register to see it.
I have a number of issues with things said in this article, but the main one is
quote: "Some people move to the exurbs because of the disconnect they feel culturally farther in," said Mark Gersh, the Washington director of the National Committee for an Effective Congress and a Democratic political analyst. "The exurbanites tend to be more family-oriented, and families are more conservative."
It's referring to how some people move to the outer suburbs to be in more conservative areas.
My problem is with the "families are more conservative" part. What the heck is this supposed to mean?!? Liberals don't care about family?
My mother is on the far, far left of the political spectrum. My father isn't too far behind her. My sister and I are both in that general region. We are a very close family. My parents are amazing, and always worked hard to be good parents to us. I'd say we're "family-oriented".
How does caring about family have anything to do with political orientation?
