Has anyone else read it? This is the first book I've read in a while that makes me want to keep reading. Lat night, I had to force myself to stop reading and go to bed.
I'd like to hear what others thought of it. No spoilers, please. I'm not that far into it.

I liked it. I also, by the time I finished it, was ready to drop it from a height of about thirty feet onto the corpse of the author, just to see how unnecessarily large a crater it would leave in his chest.

I'd rather read the bible, I started reading it in 9th grade and didn't like it. Tolstoy pushes too much detail into it.

Tom, wouldn't you have to strap him down to make sure it lands on his chest? If he was standing, wouldn't the book land on his head? Eww!

I've never read War And Peace. I always felt indimidated by the size of it.
I have read Tolstoy's short story "How Much Land Does A Man Need?" (or something like that), however, and I quite enjoyed it.

As I was reading the intro to the book, I read that it took Tolstoy 5 years to complete it. I too was intimidated by the size of it. Besides, I heared that most russian works of art ar kind of sad. Stories do usually have a tragic ending too...

Tom, I had the exact same feeling. I read the whole thing in less than a week. Someday, maybe, I will reread it, but as of now, and the near future, I have no desire whatsoever to do so.

One of my favorite books. I think Anna Karenina was the better novel. But War and Peace isn't really a novel. It's kind of a novel wrapped around a historical commentary, and I really enjoyed both.
Tolstoy is great at giving real life. Well, what I perceive to be life. Maybe my life stinks more than I realize.
