I'm thinking I'd really like to make it to the Con. Chances are the next one will be much farther away and I'm not getting on a plane unless forced. I'd have to come by myself, as the kids start school and Mr. Opera has to work. I don't want to drive, so I suppose I could take a bus, right? Is anyone coming from the Kentucky/Indiana area?

Are buses safe to travel on by myself? I know that probably sounds silly, but I've never been on one before. I'd be leaving from Louisville, KY, and it looks like the trip would be about 5 hours, which isn't bad. If I can do this, wanna share a room, PSI?

That's ok; I think I can do the bus ride by myself provided it's safe. Could someone please tell me the area of Chicago? I'm looking at tickets, and I don't know where to get off at.

Greyhound's pretty safe, if that's what you're considering. And I'm pretty sure there's a stop in Skokie, in addition to the primary stop at Union Station.

Annie will also be arriving at the Greyhound terminal in Chicago. From the greyhound terminal it is a short walk to the Metra Blue line which I would reccommend taking to O'Hare where our main shuttle service will be based from.
Skokie, IL is where we will actually be staying at the hotel. There is apparently a greyhound terminal in Skokie as well but I don't have any details other than knowing it exists.
You don't want to hang out at bus terminals as they can be unsavory and follow the basic rules - be aware of your surroundings, stay to lit areas and so on.

Ok, I found a ticket for the Con with an arrival at Skokie. Relatively cheap - about $47. My arrival time could be either 9:30am or 7:30 pm. I've noticed from the other thread that several people are arriving before noon. I'm assuming that we can't check in that early, so what will I do if I choose the morning arrival? Sorry for all the questions!

I'd go with the morning arrival. There are enough people getting there early it shouldn't be a problem. And if you wish to go all the way into skokie that will make it easier to get to the hotel. (Judging from the address I think the greyhound stop is less than a mile away from the hotel)

Ok, so assuming that I can talk Mr. Opera into this (I'm not concerned; if he knows it's important to me then he'll be cool with it) is there anybody who still needs a roomie? I could pay for a room by myself, but of course it'd be much cheaper to share. I checked the other thread, but couldn't figure out if there was still room in any of the rooms.

SO: I'm guessing you already have a bus ticket, but if it comes right down to it, I could conceivably swing through Louisville (I'm coming from Huntington). It's about a half hour farther (not really that much, in the grand scheme), and honestly, you'd probably be better off taking the bus (you dictate the schedule, more or less, whereas I still really have no idea when I plan to get there). Plus you'd be riding with a relative stranger (there are a few who could sorta vouch for my non-psychoness (my ridiculous quantity of asides aside), but I'd understand). Even so, know the offer is out there, if you need it.

PSI, if your plane ticket's $200, it's probably cheaper to fly once you factor in food for all those days.

Actually my brother-in-law is driveing to Chiacago that friday night, from louisville, he's not going to the Con, he's working that weekend at a race track there, but he had offered to drive me to the Con, if it is a 5 hour drive he'd be there like 3am our time, or 2am by the time in chicago. I can by no means promise he would give anyone a ride there, but he might.
