It seems a few US Civilians and some locals worked together to creat their own Informational Resource Center---Torture Chamber.
They were either: A) Writing a book/movie on counter terrorism. B) In it for the bounties and the money. C) Liked hurting people and wanted to be important, and are using patriotism as their shield D) Not what Rumsfeld had in mind when he talked about contracting freelance intelligence companies. E) All of the above F) Something stranger or more sinister.

quote:There was no attorney for Idema, a bearded former American soldier once convicted of fraud, who appeared in court in a khaki uniform with a reversed American flag on the shoulder.
Idema wore sunglasses in the courtroom, completing a look that once fooled even NATO (news - web sites) peacekeepers, who sent explosives experts to help him with three raids before realizing they had been duped into thinking he was with U.S. special forces.
for this among other reasons.

I vote a combination of A, B, and C. There's a $25M reward for Osama - that's serious cash, not to mention what they'd get for the movie rights.
I wondering if the Pixiest thinks that the possible torture of people here was another "non-story" as well.

actually, this is a lot closer to a non-story. It wasn't US Army backed. It doesn't give us a black eye in the world community. We don't have high ranking generals, and politicians, covering their butts to make sure that they don't appear to approve of these tactics.

I dunno, maybe it's me but I still think it's a bad thing that americans in a position of power (even if they're private citizens, they're representing the US, IMO) abusing people.
I am glad that the Afghan people will get to try the people who committed the crimes, however.

Dan, I'm glad someone else noticed the non-story comment. I was too tired and disgusted to respond when I read it.

This whole situation with Afghanistan and Iraq is beginning to look more and more like Quentin Tarantino had written the behind the scenes story.
Let's face it, there are some really bad guys out there who want to harm our country, dyed in the wool monsters.
It seems, however, that we have our own monsters, too.
I sure liked it better when we at least tried to be the good guys.
