Brendan Gleeson, aka Hamish from Braveheart, aka Monk from Gangs of New York, aka Menelaus from Troy. I think it's great. I think he'll be perfect. Info here and here.

Huh. He wouldn't have struck me as the type. But then, I really don't know that actor very well. They have done such a marvelous job of casting so far, I expect further brilliance from them.

I still think they should have saved Oldman for Moody. More screen time for Gary Oldman = good.

But John Malkowitch for Voldemort... That's just great. BTW, why didn't they choose a French actress for Madame Maxime ? Unless I understood wrong, the one they choose is English. That doesn't make any sense !

I think that Malkovich thing is still a rumor. It was about two months ago when I first heard it, a few online journals ran a thing about how that was completely unfounded.

Plus Rowling insisted that all the actor's in the movies be British...a qualification that Malkovich certainly *does not* have.

But for the Madame Maxime not being French thing... What do you think ? I mean that with no chauvinism at all, I would ask too if the director of the other school or Viktor Krum were to be played by British actors.

I read somewhere recently that Rowling no longer has any input into who is cast for the movies. Ah, it was here on her website. So maybe there will be some non-british cast and actually I think I heard somewhere that some of the minor characters were played by americans already.

I know he is a little young, but I always pictured Steve Bucshemi (unsure of spelling) as Mad Eye.

Yeah, you get the point. The man is so MONOTONE. I can't stand him.

Me, too, but I expect he would have to be paid enormous amounts of money to be involved.
I had a neat idea though. I thought it'd be cool if Rowling (or someone with her approval) wrote a backstory for Moody and made a video game out of it, following his rise as an auror and his hunt for some of the greatest dark wizards in history. It'd be neat, a mix between a noir/mystery game and a first or third person shooter, quite a bit darker than the other Potter stories or games (I haven't played any of them). Plus I think it'd be cool if it was a magic based, dueling game with hundreds of spells you could cast and no mana, just like in the stories.

If anybody made that game, we need to make sure that they check out this game so that they can see how NOT to make a magic-based PC game.
