Really, what's the limit on how many calories you have to have to keep your body from going into starvation mode? I heard somewhere that if you add a zero to your weight, that's what you need, but I mean...is it true?
And how can you people stay on the Atkins diet? I mean...don't you ever just really, really want a peanut butter and jelly sammich?

I would have thought that bigger people (fatter, not taller), would have better reserves and could perhaps last longer with less food than skinny, lighter people.

My body goes into starvation mode 3x a day.
The neat thing about the Atkins diet is that you don't have to be hungry. Craving specific things is tough, though. If I lived in a part of the country where it was even possible to get a decent bagel, I'd never be able to stick to the diet. As it is, I really love bread and at least during the induction phase of the diet, you can't have any. Later on, and especially during "maintenance" you can have some bread. It's enough, I guess.
Peanut butter is actually not that bad unless you like a lot of it. Jelly...well, I miss jelly.
I really miss chocolate!!!

I cannot sleep. That is all I have done for the last three days. I get sick too often to stay asleep anyway.

I feel for you, Danzig. When I was suffering from my eye infection, I might feel physically like getting up, but there was nothing I could do for fun and I was so depressed I couldn't muster the will to get out of bed most of the time. It wasn't that I didn't want to do anything, but that none of those things were available to me.

I didn't miss peanut butter (x-tra crunchy) and jelly (strawberry) sammiches (toasted white bread) until now, thank you very much!
And the answer to your other question concerning Atkin's Diet involves lots and lots of chicken wings.

Russell Stover's makes low-carb candy that tastes just like their regular candy. It's expensive, but worth it for the chocolate fits. Chocolate redi-whip is also a Godsend.

I've heard that you can make spaghetti out of squash. And mashed "potatoes" out of cauliflower. I may try the cauliflower someday, but I won't go near squash.

Spaghetti squash is good, and can be eaten like spaghetti, but it doesn't really taste much like it.
pH, the minimum caloric intake I've always heard from doctors and nutritionists is 1200 calories per day. However, that's a general guideline -- for your specific case, you might wish to consult a nutritionist (or doctor).

I noticed that there is low carb yogurt. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm pretty excited about it. I have missed fruit.
I'm having a hard time because so many of the low-carb foods are high in fat. I'm trying to find a balance between low carb, low fat, and exercise. Luck to me.

I know they make whole wheat pasta, but I don't know about low carb. Whole wheat pasta tastes like chewy cardboard.

I once read that severely obese patients (200 pounds over IBW) can be hospitalized and given fluids and nutritionals IV. They can then bypass eating for periods lasting as long as a year.
