Random thought: The phrase "many happy returns" always makes me think of standing in line at the customer service counter in Dillards.

34 years so far and I hope the next 34 are just as interesting as these have been!
The last year has been a very, very trying one. My wife lost her job, my first book flopped on trying to get a publisher and I got mixed up with a start-up newspaper that ended up being a con game (finding it out and exposing it got me fired, too). I also lost four aunts and a grandfather to the grave, saw my Mom's family break out into civil war over inheritances, packed on about 50 pounds of unnecessary weight and a whole bunch of little naggling problems.
It's strange, though. A couple of days ago, I got the feeling that the worm had turned. I'm feeling up and inspired, we're finally catching up on our bills and I'm very optimistic about the coming year. Thanks everyone for lending an ear now and then, it has helped immensely.

I know what you mean about that indefinable feeling that things are changing. Happened to me, too, and it was right. I am also, by an amazing coincidence, 34. I'm about 6 weeks older than you.
