They're finally releasing The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest on DVD. I'm a huge fan of the original Jonny Quest cartoon. I really enjoyed the little-seen second season of the late 90s revival.
Unfortunately, the DVD release is starting with Season 1. Isn't that natural place to start, you ask?
Well, yes. But Season 1 was pretty...awful. Major reasons include "QuestWorld", a lame combination of the Star Trek: The Next Generation holodeck and the games on ReBoot that totally ran counter to the entire Jonny Quest paradigm.
"Adventure in exotic locations around the world? No thanks, Hadji! I want to pretend I'm TRON instead!"
And then there was Race Bannon's Season 1 voice. For some reason, they cast a guy who sounded like H.R. Pufnstuf. Only less masculine.
Combine that with stories that had a weird desire to emulate the X-Files by way of G.I. Joe instead of world-spanning pulp science adventures, and we had one awkward show.
Season 2 fixed all this. Season 2 was great! However, as Season 2 was already in production during the time Season 1 failed to rock the world, those episodes were quickly burned off before cancellation.
I want a Season 2 DVD release, but I get the feeling it won't happen unless a lot of people buy Season 1. I have my doubts about that, to say the least.

That would be an interesting addition to my collection.
I did give up on it after watching a few episodes, for the reasons that you outlined above. I guess I'll have to look out for the second season. Thanks.

I like what few episodes I've seen of Venture Brothers, but normally I'm working hours that I don't get to watch much late-night television.

I already have the first two seasons of Venture Bros. Johnny Quest would be excellent with them, and would give my kid some perspective since he already watches VB.

awesome. yeah, we're in a better position to be hit by the brilliant parody of venture brothers since we grew up watching the cheapo adventure cartoons that they adeptly dysfunctionalized.
