quote: "They are unbelievably misogynistic and geared toward making whoever is playing perpetuate the worst parts of our society,'' Fenty said.
Referring to Grand Theft Auto, he said the game "awards points for killing police officers and assaulting women, and it is done in a way that glorifies violence."
Williams (D), at his weekly media briefing, said he would support a ban. "I've actually seen the game," he said. "It's a horrible game for kids to be using."
The legal outlook for such a measure is uncertain. Federal appeals courts have rejected as unconstitutional the efforts by St. Louis County and Indianapolis to regulate video games.
Fenty said the games contribute to a wave of youth car thefts and related violence.
It's not inadequate policing, an insufficient tax base, or horrible schools. It's the video games!
OK, I'm exaggerating - they're not saying violence in video games causes all the problems. But sheesh. Could they fill in a few potholes, first?

ya know, I'm an avid gamer so the last thing I want is censorship of games...
but jeez.. have you SEEN GTA? OMG it is the most immoral and violent game I have ever seen.
and the worst part of it is it's FUN.
I've never been more ashamed of having fun than when my first mission had me delivering a car full of prostitutes to the policeman's ball... (and running over everyone in my way to get there.)

What's wrong with DC is that folks outside the city limits play video games insteada keeping themselves informed about what their Congressmen are doing.
Ya know, I concede the right of folks to play video games: just as I would concede the right of folks to smoke tobacco/marijuana/opium, drink booze, shoot smack, watch porn, pig out on junk food, couch potato with the TV, etc. But it's irritating as heck to watch folks going nutso berzerko to defend those practices as if they were healthy for ya. They ain't. Live with it. Cuz lyin' to yourself is even worse than the habit.

They're right. GTA is not a game that kids should be playing. It's basically rated R, so kids really shouldn't be playing it. I can fully understand how an immature kid could fail to understand the lines between reality and game. I think there is more a serious failure in parenting if preteens are playing these things. I don't know. Maybe some of these parents are stuck with the Pac-Man no such thing as a bad for kids video game mentality. Maybe little Jimmy is getting ahold of Big brother's games and playing when he's not home. Maybe the afformentioned little Jimmy is just watching his brother play, not being allowed to play, and choosing to play the real-life version. Who knows?

By the way, "This is what's wrong with DC!" in the title was supposed to be sarcastc (My God! It was the video games!), not a comment that the policy itself is what's wrong with DC.
