My son's least fav. is A Christmas Song Probably 'cuz my hubby and I LOVE to sing that song at the top of our lungs ALL Christmas season- we are starting a new tradition this year-- we are going to sing it at the dinner table before Thanksgiving Dinner. (we're SUCH horrible parents )

Favorite holiday songs: Hark! The Herald Angels Sing and Gloria (In Excelsis Deo). I can't choose between these two. Least Favorite Holiday Song: If you could even count this one, it's the Thanksgiving Song by Adam Sandler. I finally figured out how to escape this one this year...I kept the radio off.
Oh, another one I hate is this one: I can't remember the name but it goes something like, "This Christmas I gave you my heart, the very next day, you threw it away. This year, to save me from tears, I'll give it to someone special."
Favorite non-Christian holiday song: "Santa's Comin' in a Whirlybird" by Gene Autry

I'm shocked and appalled that more people haven't listed The Huron Carol/Twas In the Moon of Wintertime and The Ukranian Bell Carol/Carol of the Bells as their favorites.
Incidentally, you can here The Huron Carol in the language that Saint Jean de Brebeuf wrote it in here . Although I happen to think it sounds particularly awesome with a good, low bass in control.

My favourite version comes from a choral CD that Chapters/Indigo/Coles was selling a bunch of years back. I gave it to my dad, who eventually gave it to my brother, who has lost it at least twice. And I CANNOT find that dratted version anywhere else. This Christmas, if it surfaces, I am KEEPING it.
Oh, and I really like O Come O Come Emmanuel (the older version), and O Holy Night.

I would have chosen Karen Carpenter's rendition of Ave Maria as one of my favorites as well, but my wife always insists on singing along. She sings it opera-style sans the brass brassiere.

Last year my sister confessed to me that "Little Drummer Boy" makes her cry every time. When asked why, she said it's the line that goes..."then he smiled at me..." I'm a smart-a@@, so I told her that it was probably just gas.
I think I have that version. Or at least I have a CD that Coles was selling a few years ago for $2.99 that has the Huron Carol on it. Let me know if you want a copy of the song.

Favorite contemporary Christmas CD is Clint Black's "Looking For Christmas". Go out and buy NOW. It is FABULOUS. All songs are original, with a nice mix of secular and religious.

Okay, I would probably get tired of "What Child Is This?" by itself, but my old parish's choir did a version of this that was a kind of a duet with an original lyric and melody intersperred with the traditional hymn. The Hallelujah was the best, though. We always sang it after communion at Midnight Mass. You mean the one at the Civic Opera House ? I always want to go and I always forget until the day of, which by then is too late to arrange for childcare. Won't be this year for me, though, I have conflicts on both dates (Mon. 12/20 and Tues 12/21)

Yeah, that's the one. I went several years back. It was fun, but if I go again, I want to get there EARLY to get a seat on the main floor. We were up in one of the balconies, and it was kind of squishy. I'd really like to go again this year, because I no longer attend my old parish, which means I will miss out on hearing it. I love most Christmas music. Two traditional French carols that've recently become favorites = "Bring a Torch, Jeannette Isabella" and "Sing We Now of Christmas"

Nope. I may have been confusing by saying "original lyric". I didn't mean the original lyrics for the tune, but lyrics that were written speficially for this arrangement, AFAIK.
I think it was called Child of the Poor, or something similar. That's kind of jogging my memory. Beautiful, beautiful song, though.

I love this carol, but I have a feeling it's one of those things that's spcific to the area in which you live. i.e. North-Eastern America and Quebec and Ontario.
But I'm glad someone else knows it.
I also like the bell carol but only if I'm singing over and over .
EDIT: I love the melody of Greensleeves but dislike the "What child is this?" lyrics.

We've got Roger Whittaker cranked right now.
When my wife brought the first CD home I complained that Roger Whittaker was one of those guys who shows up along with Mantovani's Orchestra on those anthology CDs, sold on late-nite TV.
Now he's the first one we listen to when we break out the Christmas CDs. He's also been know to pop up in July when I start getting antsy for Christmas.

Lesee, my father loved Good King Wenceslas and so it has a special place in my heart as well. All I Want For Christmas is My Two Front Teeth irks me as do some of those other Christmas songs written to be sung by children so their parents think they're cute.

My favorite Christmas carol is 'O Holy Night', then 'Hark the Herald Angels Sing' and 'O Come Emmanuel'
The one song that aggravates my father to no end is the Alvin and the Chipmunks song... You know, "Christmas, Christmas time is here, time for joy and time for cheer..." My brother and I have mastered the high pitched voices and sing it when we're unwrapping Christmas presents. It ALWAYS makes him roll his eyes.

Favorite Christmas Hymn: It's called 'Canto di Betlehem' in Italian; I haven't been able to find it in English, though that's where it started out. Go figure.
I love the song, 'Little Drummer Boy,' and 'First Noel.'
Least Favorite: Mmmmm. . . any of the Shrek christmas songs.
