Kat said to start a new thread because people who weren't coming due to finances have probably stopped looking at the Kama Con threads.
So I am. There is a Generous anonymous donor out in cyberspace, that has offered to sponsor a room or rooms if there is enough interest among people who wouldn't be able to come otherwise due to financial constraints. They don't want people to miss out on the fun. Telperion and Farmgirl were among the ones mentioned.
It depends on the amount of interest and which gender is interested as to whether one or two rooms are reserved. And there has to be interest because while generous the Anonymous Donor doesn't want to throw away their money on a fruitless venture either.

Okay -seriously. I'm not sure how to react.
I've always been too prideful to take charity. I work for a living, so I should find a way to do it on my own..
I still have those days scheduled as vacation days from work, so I haven't committed myself to anything else for that time...
And Boon has offered to share rides, and now this. It is almost like people really want me to come (I thought otherwise for a few moments earlier today - I was feeling unwelcomed for awhile).
How soon do you need to know? And could I still bring Ivygirl?

What -- you're not going to let Telperion and I share a room?

You know, I was one of the people who original promoted the idea of us all putting together money to help Kama come over. Now this really makes me look bad.
Because some things just don't always turn out the way we expect.
Would I be allowed to payback said anonymous person in the following months to pacify my conscious and pride?

FarmGirl, don't try to talk yourself out of it. The very fact your having these doubts proves that you can accept charity gracefully, and with full appreciation.
So, like, do it already.
Some quote of Bokononism for you:
"As it was meant to happen..." "Busy, busy, busy."
And my personal favorite: "Peculiar travel suggestions are dancing lessons from god."

Farmgirl, you need to go--if I do happen to make it, and I don't get to meet you, I'm going to be very irritated.
Don't look at this as charity--look at it as a present. It's just an unexpected Good Thing that has come your way. Plus, it doesn't matter whether there are other people that could use this gift more than you could--your taking advantage of this offer isn't going to prevent anyone else from doing the same.

I'm really bummed out that I can't fly right now (makes the vertigo really bad) because I would so love to join you all. Can I be there in spirit?

As far as paying back the anonymous donor. I think they would be offended to take the money. (Yes when speaking of giving and taking money everyone gets squicked out.) However we could give it to Kama via Pay Pal to help defray her travel expenses, even if it is after the fact. I think the Anonymous Donor would highly approve of that actually. Or, I could put it in my general fund pot to help defray food and catering etc. I'm not worrying about catering until after this weekend though. I have the names of several kosher caterers.

Well, because in all my past life I have often made un-wise decisions; and due to that I have made myself vow to never make snap (impulsive) decisions (I'm a very impulsive person), I have to defer this decision for 24 hours. Of course, I'm leaning heavily toward YES, I WILL THERE, but I don't want to say that without a period of time to think and pray about it to make sure I'm not being irresponsible again. And I need to check with Boon to see if she is seriously coming and sharing rides.

Farmgirl, I second what Noemon said - view it as a gift. (Um, Noemon, I need to stop agreeing w/ you on so many things!) It's a wonderful opportunity to do something fun and to meet everyone. I'm sure all of us here have had hard times financially. I'm pretty certain financial woes are right up there with death and taxes.

Actually, Space Opera, holding the same opinions as I do automatically means that you hold the same opinions as CT does, and since everybody knows that she's the best of us, that has to speak well of you and me.

Farmgirl, I understand wanting to think about it for 24 hours before committing. I'm trying to make fewer impulsive decisions too, so I approve of your methodology.

Of course, that means you can't post on Hatrack for those two weeks. You don't want to meet yourself posting. Your other self could get so confused.
